I have posted a .zip file containing the changed source code,
documentation, and demo files to povray.binaries.programming.

I downloaded this, but I can't read *any* of it. None of it seems to
be in a pure ASCII text mode, but some proprietary format instead. I
used Win Zip to extract the files, and got no error messages in the
process. I don't think that WinZIP is the problem.

When I looked at post-pro.txt in my usual editor, it opened the file
in hex format, because it wasn't a true ASCII text file. I did see
something about "Code Warrior IDE" embedded in all the mess near the
bottom of the file. Perhaps you saved these files in a proprietary IDE
format?

I would really like to get the complete source files, (not diffs or
anything), in plain ASCII text mode, to plug into my MegaPOV source. I
can't wait to try this out.

Thanks,
Glen Berry

Oh, it is true ASCII text, the problem is that Macs use a different line
feed sequence from Windows(and UNIX has yet another kind of line feed).
A good text editor should still be able to open it...I will re-upload
the files converted to Windows format text.

Uhm, there isn't a file called "post-pro.txt". There *is* a file named
"Post-process patch docs.txt"...
And CodeWarrior uses plain text files for the source code...maybe you
are looking at some resource fork data that somehow got through.

I don't want to give the full parse.c, parse.h, and tokenize.h files,
since I only modified a small portion and I also have modifications from
other patches.

Never mind, I downloaded the file myself and found that ZipIt had made a
complete mess of the files...would you mind a StuffIt file?

Does anyone know of some *good* .zip compression software for the Mac?

If it can be opened on a PC, it would be fine.

If you want, you can also send the uncompressed files to me via email.
They shouldn't be too large, and modem compression will help a lot
with transfer times. I can also bundle them up with WinZIP and repost
them for you, if you like, for the benefit of other PC users.

Thanks,

There is a Windows version of StuffIt Expander, I think it comes with
most system installs and is also available here:
http://www.aladdinsys.com/expander/expander_win_login.html

I will do that if the .sit file doesn't work.

ZipIt works fine, but you have to turn off "Convert Filenames to PC
compatible format", turn off "By default smart-strip linefeeds from text
files" and turn off "Allow duplicate filenames"" in the prefs. You may also
want to turn on "Pretend to be Unix zip". Setting "Use Mac Binary" to
"Never" is also a good idea. The only drawback is that with these settings
Mac files with resource forks no longer come through OK, but for Macs there
always StuffIt anyway :-)

I had already figured out "Convert Filenames to PC compatible format"
and "By default smart-strip linefeeds from text files", but the others
were the defaults, and there was garbage in the files. Using the
settings you suggest seems to work, thanks!
If anyone wants, I can upload a useable .zip now...

I like this URL better:

  ftp://ftp.aladdinsys.com/pub/pc/Expander_for_Windows/ALEX50.EXE

There's no silly user data required for download, and no surveys to
fill out.

Chris,

I've been playing around with your source (in preperation for the release of
MegaPov 0.5) and I've made a number of modifications/improvements to your
find_edges filter (which you labeled as "not ready for release"). If you'd
like me to send you my changes, let me know. The changes add anti-aliasing
without the need for two theresholds, as well as removeing a few bugs,
including one that would not permit a radius of 1.

BTW, great work on thse filters. They are very fun to play with!
