Can someone please update the Mac OS X 10.2 download page with an ETA for
Release Candidate 3?
http://mac.povray.org/download/macosx102.html
(Please note that I did *not* ask when RC3 would be coming out... I just was
asking if someone on the POV-Ray team would mind updating the download page,
since it's obviously out-of-date now.)

If its obvious there is no need to update the page, is there? It will be
ready when it is ready.

I agree, the current page is sufficient. However, the main download page
refers to RC1 as though it is still there.

Thanks Thorsten, for your usual typical rude answer. It's nice to know we
can always count on your charm-free personality for a non-responsive reply.
I already said that I wasn't asking for an ETA answer here in the
newsgroup... all I was doing was alerting the POV-Ray team that the HTML
page on the main website is waaaay out of date and that someone might want
to put an updated page in place. You, of course, couldn't resist the
opportunity to bitch-slap another POV-Ray user for having the temerity to
ask a question.
Tell me, are you this nasty and abrupt in person? (Let me guess: your
response will be "No, I am even worse in person.")

Well, you do expected a long and friendly reply to a remark about a fact
that itself suggests the free time of team members is already so limited we
don't have time to update the website yet do have the time to give you a
lengthy reply?

So you think we are so stupid that we don't know what is on our *own*
website? Or what other reason do you have to tell us what is going on on
our website?

No, in person I wouldn't even have the time to talk to you. And the people
I do need to talk to usually have even less time than I do, so there is no
pointless conversation...

Before you judge Thorsten you might try using POV-Ray a while and then ask
yourself how much you enjoy using it. Thorsten is one of the main core
developers of POV-Ray plus he maintains the Mac version of the program.
Where it not for his contributions to POV-Ray it would be considerably less
than what it is now. He may not be an openly charming person publicly but
his work speaks for itself.
Try not to be such an emotionally sensitive putz and cut the guy some slack.

Ken,
I *have* been using POV-Ray for a while (2+ years). I cannot recall a single
time that Thorsten has ever answered a question I've posted without an
attitude of supreme arrogance and total disdain.
I am well aware of his contributions to POV-Ray, but since when does that
give him a license to be as cold, nasty and rude as he has always been? He
may be a supreme software developer, but his people skills, to put it
mildly, suck.
But whatever. Life is too short for me to waste another nanosecond
concerning myself with Thorsten's obviously-stunted people skills.

Thanks for reminding me to check this out. I was sure you asked a similar
question and got a similar answer before:
<http://news.povray.org/povray.beta-test/20821/>
Oh, and I guess you are also referring to your suggestion in
<http://news.povray.org/povray.general/30888/>, which in the end turned out
to be exactly what I said it would be...
So, you might as well consider that a few of the questions you are asking
and the suggestions you are making are the problem and you just don't want
anybody to tell you the truth even in case you ask for it. I am sorry, but
this ain't commercial tech support for disgruntled customers supplied by
clueless call center agents whose only job is to make you feel good about a
flawed product. I won't give you the answer you want, I will tell you the
truth even if it doesn't make you happy. I think in the end this is the
better way to answer questions.

Sounds like courtesy is what was being talked about here. Regardless of what
the answer is one should not be rude in responding. On the other hand one
must understand the demands of software development.
I know, Thorsten, that you are a major part of PovRAY and PovRAY would be
hurt if you stopped your developing but it does not sound like you enjoy
what you are doing on PovRAY anymore. At least in how much time it requires.
Is there anyone else capable of taking up some of the development slack. As
big as the internet is I would thank someone could help. I know I do not
have the programming skills to contribute but I sure will continue to root
for those that do have.

You got it the wrong way around: It is not about the POV-Ray development
taking the time. It is about real-life taking the time, and then, when
finally having time to work on POV-Ray first having to sort through piles of
questions and suggestions that come by email and that are similar to the one
posted here that started this thread.
Of course, the real problem might be that only for the Mac version there is
still a support email address. For the Windows (and DOS) version the
support email address had to be discontinued years ago. The signal to noise
ratio was simply getting unacceptable.
