Unfortunately, I will not be able to get the new IRTC site running by
the end of May as I was hoping. I'm waiting for the site design files
(HTML, CSS, JPGs, etc.) from our graphic artist and he's been busy with
other paying work. He tells me that he'll have them ready soon, but to
date, I still don't have them.
After I get those files, I need to make changes to the IRTC code to
generate the correct HTML.
My apologies. Please remember that the people working on this are
volunteering their time and it's hard to ask them to pass up paying work
to do volunteer work.
I'll let you know as soon as things progress.

Dear David,
Thanks for keeping us informed. Although I wouldn't presume to to actually
speak for anyone else, I feel pretty confident that nearly everyone here at the
newsgroup has enough experience with reality vs. user expectations issues to
understand and empathize with your situation. I will personally endeavor to
behave as little like the annoying child in the back seat of the car who keeps
asking "Are we there yet?" as possible. Please be assured that your efforts
are very much appreciated.
Given that the project is very much "in progress", getting more people involved
in graphic design may not be an expeditious move. However, *IF* you or your
graphic designer would like to farm out a few tasks to expedite the process, I
would be happy to do what I could. (Just leave a contact request here in the
thread.)
Best Regards,
Mike C.

Well, if the "graphic designer" he's talking about is who I think it is...
I have already seen screenshots of the future site and even gave
opinions/comments about it :)

Isn't it kind of strange that we are waiting for graphics designs, when
this is actually a graphics oriented competition? This is not remotely
meant as a criticism, but as a suggestion: can't we collaborate to get
the page up? Maybe even a minimalist version, and improve it later?

No criticism taken.
I've been discussing this issue with Chris Cason and this is, in fact,
what we will be doing. I'll make some changes to use HTML with DIV's
and class names to allow CSS to be generated for it later. We'll then
get a minimal site running with plain (probably dull-looking) graphics.
I also have a few small changes to make for the submission process,
but those can wait until we start running a contest (which I hope will
be soon).
Chris has offered to develop some minimal CSS files to make the site
functional. I proposed running a round of the contest to have POV
Artists design the look of the site - the winner gets to have the IRTC
site adopt that look. We're not sure, however, that the best POV
artists have sufficient experience with CSS to do that easily. We can
discuss that when we get to that stage.
The first step, though, is to get a minimal site up. Although I am busy
with some other things, I hope to have that by June 30.
Thanks.

Hi David.
I do hope that is July 30th, else we'd have to wait for another year ;-)
Ok about the design - if a good looking design has been put out,
generating the CSS shouldn't be sooo complicated. I'd put emphasis on the
graphic elements for the design phase. Somehow we'll glue everything
together afterwards. If I can be of help, just whistle...
Cheers,
John

Umm.. End of July is what I meant :-)
Thanks. We'll work to get this finished. After we get up a minimal
site we'll decide on the next steps.
Thanks for the offer. Chris and I will go over the options when it's time.

Here, "meant" meaning "hoped for."

<sigh>
If I can't deliver, I can at least do my best to explain.
On July 30th, I received the images, HTML files and CSS files from the
graphics artist. I felt that it would be best to properly integrate
these into the framework before releasing it.
As it also happens, I received a contract to work on an urgent problem.
Combine that with a family trip to visit ailing relatives and you get a
complete lack of time. I haven't had time to get back to the IRTC.
I really hate excuses, though. As a consolation prize, I'll give you
access to the look of the site that we received from the graphics artist.

Keep in mind that nothing here works. It's just the template. I'll try
to also get the Seaside code posted to show how the application would
flow. After that, it's a matter of getting the two to work together.

Looking good so far!
I am sure we are all patient enough to wait until you have the time;
after all we waited much longer to find out the old irtc was terminally
defunct.
Keep up the good work and once again thanks
John
