Sad. Sad. I always warn people around me to avoid (repeat: avoid!)
ray-tracing. Its pernicious effects are even worse than uisge beatha :-o
Which brings be back to that marvellous Stanford bunny which looks very
very good. With all the round tuits I have got I should be able now to
experiment with sslt too... when I have finished, that is, playing with
silly booted, naked men ;-)

While you two sweety wives have been hanging over the garden fence
gossiping. I've been grafting. :-P
I made this in Blender and except for the cylinder it is all text. I
tried to use a Keltic font for the writing but the mesh sizes were
horrendous.
Note the artefact at the horizon on the reverse? A weeks supply of
genuine ancient almost round Tuits for the first correct solution.
Hurry before supply outstrips demand!

Maybe with an image_map text and then extruded as height_field?

Now that seems to be reflection on the reverse side, no? You can see
that also lower down, where the checkered plane is reflected.

Of course, doing it in Pov would have been much easier. But for a while
I am going to do everything in Blender then render it in PovRay. I am
having to develop a different mind set.

I can't put much past you. I was using an old Moray material and it had
too high a value for reflection. Because it was at the horizon I thought
that it looked like the artefact a SOR gives if you don't use sturm.

That's a good idea indeed. One thing that Silo cannot do (basically that
is) is text. I have to import it from outside.

The horizon fooled me for a second, until I saw the reflections lower
down. Which reminds me that I have not used Moray for ages; I have not
even it installed on my present pc. I am waiting for its future avatar
under pov 3.7 or later. Will take a while I am sure.

I seldom use 3D Text. Blender lets you use a basic text editor and
upload a file. I was going to difference the text from the base material
but my laptop fell over laughing. But then it is old and needs a
re-install and I am lazy.
