Here's my WIP from a while back. Maybe you can take it farther than I did.
http://news.povray.org/povray.binaries.images/thread/%3Cweb.43efa50f2b248055dff42daa0%40news.povray.org%3E/?mtop=2

I don't recall if I ever posted an animation or not, but I'll see if I can dig
something up and post a scene in scene-files. I'd love to see more, now that
SG-1 is off the air I'm a bit nostalgic about it.

Or it would make a good addition to the object collection if you're ok with
the LGPL license.

Any way I could gt the OBJ file?

www.scifi-meshes.com has low-res and high-res versions of the stargate and dhd.
you have to create a log-in to download, but if that doesn't work, I think I
have them on my HD.

Mike,

Would like to take a look a your stargate model. I've been working on my own,
using CSG and converted meshes using POVRay and Moray but have not been getting
to far with work demands. I've completed (to my own satisfaction anyway) a
proportional chevron model, if you care to see it. Is on my home computer so I
will upload tonight.

I would like to see your source/code/file, if you don't mind.

I also currently have a 3ds low-res and hi-res version downloaded from
scifi-meshes.com (see previous posts)

Hmm ... I see a pic and a discussion:

I *was* lost, then I was found:
http://lib.povray.org/
search: stbhfarch = dlbutton

Looks like Sam is gonna teach me a thing or two, will take a look.

You know as much or more than I about the cross-section shape.

"perfect collaborative project" are exciting words to me, wishing I could claim
a part.

My part will be to educate myself so I am worth something to future projects and
to do anything that doesnt get done on this, one way or another.

thanks to everyone,

Not currently considering I gave up on it, not to mention size.

I am not sure "lordso'ringsjunkie" (stephen) file is available in low res:
http://www.stephenmeli.net/images/irisopen.jpg
http://blenderartists.org/forum/archive/index.php/t-103776.html

http://www.scifi-meshes.com/meshes/index.php?ACT=search
search: stargate

Event horizon: 2meg

Blender files you make available I'll convert to .obj and .mtl if you need.

Yeah, there was no direct download link, but you seemed to have found it
just fine :)

> Looks like Sam is gonna teach me a thing or two, will take a look.

Hmm, if you are referring to the large help file, sorry about that. I
wanted to document every feature. The feature list was originally small,
but I kept of finding logical additions that no complete inc file could
be without. So, it's a little bloated, but it does what it's meant to! ;)

The mesh was added to Chris' stargate glyph post, over in
povray.binaries.scene-files,

The event horizon has become another exercise in pulling out true map colors
(again)

The planets were looking like all was needed was radiosity and array lighting.
Now I'm washed out again.

#declare event =
disc { <0, 0, 0>,  -z, 1
   texture {
     normal {
        waves 0.2
        rotate z*45
        frequency 5000
        scale 180
        phase clock*-.5
     }
     pigment {
       image_map {
          png "eventtex.png"
          once
          transmit all .5 filter all 0
       }
       scale <1,1,1>
    }
    finish {
      ambient 0
      brilliance 2
      diffuse 1.2
      metallic
      specular 0.1
      roughness 1/80
      reflection 0.5
    }
    scale 2
    translate <-1,-1,0>
  }
}

results in 20-30 more minutes

A mistake in event texture for this render caused reflection to skew off right
but I caught it before posting the previous event object.

If you can get true colors from a map, feel free to show us, it is a recurring
issue.
