Still a work in progress. The tree is courtesy of tomtree, but the
numbers are mine. The picture is a procedural texture.

Okay, maybe it isn't a procedural texture. ;P

Render stats: far, FAR too long, and requiring more memory than I have. >_<

That is a nice happy happy tree. Does this mean you are also happy and your
site will go back up?

Not really. The happy tree is someone else's idea, I'm just the one who
decided to make one and render it.

Eventually, yes.

That picture looks like the same one David Morgan-Mar based this round's IRTC
entry off of. Supposedly it's called "The Great Wave Off Kanagawa". Did his
entry inspire you to use that, or is it just a coincidence? Nice looking
scene, either way :)

This one looks good, but maybe a tad regimental, so you could move that
central wall picture slightly to the left or right.

I don't know, it fits quite nicely with what I (in my limited knowledge
of such things) would expect to see in a Japanese house or setting. (the
woodcut on the wall looks very Japanese to me)

But I suspect it's a case of personal taste.

I like it a lot, in case you hadn't guessed :)

Bye for now,
     Jamie.

I think it's a very good composition. The Japanesish background with the
light color and paintings is pleasant but not distracting or detracting.
80:51, that's an odd ratio! Good ratio for the pic. Not quite golden,
huh...
I'm getting sick of rendering with this stupid 4:3 ratio, it's not very
appealing, is it? When I finish my ice planet mumbo jumbo it will be either
2:3 (photo) or 1:phi (golden).

It seems to have a variety of names: "The Great Wave", "The Great Wave
Off Kanagawa", "Shallow Of A Wave Off Kanagawa", etc. It was done by a
fellow named Hokusai (among other things.. he had about thirty names
over the course of his life).

Coincidence; I've never seen his entry.

Thanks. :)

Yeah, dishevelment doesn't look very Japanese. The image as a whole will
be a little more off-balance when I'm done, though, since I have to
wood-plank the wall and change the left canvas-looking thing into one of
those paper-grid windows (and the right one will probably end up as a
sliding door). I might move the camera slightly, too.

The woodcut on the wall IS Japanese.. see other posts in this thread. ;)

Thanks. :D

It's entirely accidental, actually. It's supposed to be 4:3, but memory
problems killed the render a couple of times so I had to paste together
screenshots, and then the bottom was taking SO long that I grabbed it
while it was still rendering just in case, and then I changed some
settings for the next render and then finally crashed and had to reboot,
so.. the bottom section is missing, since it was just radiosity mosaic.
(You didn't really miss anything, though.. and you know what they say
about design and taking stuff away.)

No, it's not.. but if you want to use what you make as wallpaper, you
either have to design at 4:3, or crop it later. I do kind of like the
different aspect on this one, though; I might end up rendering it at
16:9 and then letterboxing it if I need to later.
