The part about 'God self-destructing' is the best mockery of all
religious arguments that I have ever encountered. It is a great
example of both the falacial logic some people use to disprove the
existence of God to a true believer, and that true believer's
reaction.

(Logic man to God): 'So you see, you don't exist'
(God): 'Oh, I haven't thought about that' (disappears in a puff of
logic)

Adams doesn't mock God, he mocks the argument. And at least you, Tony,
would agree that the argument about the existance of God deserves
mocking. As does the one about evolution/creation, which Adams mocks
as well.

And you're right, it's a pretty weird book :)

You missed my point.  HHGTG is COPYRIGHTED WORK.  No matter whether you download
a text file of it or an MP3 of it, you're breaking the law.  Go buy the book; 
surely even the least wealthy person reading this news server can afford five 
bucks for a paperback.  If you can't, go borrow it from your public library.

I'm sorry, Ron, but you don't understand something. a) I'm not interested in
the book, I was just curious at the time. The file is long gone. b) Books in
English are very hard to come by here in Panama, so I'm pretty sure that
that one won't be in any store. If the stores don't have it, then be sure
that the Libraries won't carry it either. Everything is in Spanish.

It's a lot more than five bucks for a friggin' paperback around here! But I agree
most people can still easily afford it.
And the problem with books is you don't realize they're crap until after you pay the
$15 (yes, $15) and actually read it and by then you've wasted irreplaceable time and
money. I'm not saying al books are bad, some are definitely good (like HHGTG). Then
there's the music industry... usually only one or two songs on a CD are well known
and you can almost never listen before you buy. I'm not saying anything about
myself, but lots of people use illegal mp3s as a "listen before you buy" thing.

I have three mp3s downloaded from a Bulgarian server which I like a
lot and would like to buy the whole album. The problem is that
copyright info has been removed and the filenames are indescriptive
(GH1CD2.mp3 for example). The server is now down so I can't approach
the admin, and all searches on the web leave me clueless as who the
artist and/or the album might be. So there.

http://www.amazon.com  and there are others that sell books internationally,
my friends use the US site and not the one in UK, as the UK version keeps 
sending them the wrong books.

HHGTG 9.99 here in paperback, works out at about 15-17 dollars, the list price 
in Aus is 24 dollars. If you're not working, that's a lot of money, and to most 
people who are working it's still a lot. 

It's cheaper to buy the CDs here than it is to d/l the MP3s, (due to the price 
of phone calls here).

Hmm, all my mp3s are in the Artist - Song format, and I have bought 3 CDs recently
entirely based on mp3s, two I had never even heard of before.
