I know, it gets boring if you've seen this over and over again, (it's
found a lot at my AOL webspace ;) but it's one of those
forever-on-the-workbench-being-tweaked-upon-in-various-ways
models/scenes.

Something that doesn't come up a lot here (or in
news.povray.org.general, to keep out of the binaries) is printing of
images. I'm probably in the same boat with many of you who have printed
out what seems to be the wrong image when compared to the monitor
screen. Talk about one of lifes frustrations! I have to set up an
entirely different looking version of a picture to get anywhere similar
to an original POV-Ray render (goes for anything, I know, but we're here
about POV). Everything from brightness/contrast to color adjustments.
I just happened to think how little this is covered.

So anyway, comments appreciated, and here it is:

Seems darn close to what I remember of it's appearence.
The only thing missing is the rest of Seattle and the
water front area. I had a couple great images of the
space needle on my images HD before windows scan disk
wiped them all out.

I take it from this image and your recent post concerning
your brothers view of the olympia area that you must live
in the Washington area. Say hi to my brother if you run
into him. He just moved up that way about a year ago.

Colors are referenced differently for printing, then for video (obviously).
There are programs that can make the conversion for you. I am not aware of
any freeware, though.

If you really want good quality prints from your POV-Ray images, get them
printed on a Fujix Pictography 4000 printer. The Fujix prints on glossy or
matte photo paper. If you render them at some ungodly resolution (like
4096x3072 or something) you can get a decent 20x16 print. 1280x1024 is just
fine for an 8x10, though. Great for framing! Of course, if you're using POV,
you probably don't have the $35,000 for a Fujix... so you'll have to find
someone who does. (I used to know of a photo processing place in Seattle, but
that was 2 years ago.)

Just some advice from someone who's done some shopping around... :-)

Umm, no, I don't live there anymore. No *sane* person would! j/k
But seriously, 15 years of my life there and I didn't realize just how
much gray sky and drizzle I was immersed in all that time. To be fair it
does get nice there too (makes it seem really, really nice in fair
weather).
Family moved there from Merritt Island, FL (between mainland and the
cape) in 1970, and the mountains overwhelmed me at first. I moved back
to where I was born, Decatur, AL along with my parents in '85. Waiting
for the next tornado report is much better than dampness 300 days a year
(exagerating? not sure).
My brother works at Boeing so if your brother is there too there's a
chance of them knowing each other, doubt it though, Seattles population
isn't what it was in '70. Long-winded here, but, I would like to get
more into that POV scene. However, as is, I'm making a early 70's Space
Needle and there wasn't much of a city there then, no skyscapers like
now.
What I was thinking of adding most is the monorail and then keep a
ground to sky view if anything. Those of you that don't know, these
things were part of the 1962 worlds fair at Seattle Center and the
monorail makes just a short jaunt into downtown.
Well, given everyone plenty to read and thanks for the comment Ken.

As said in reply to Ken, I'm not in Seattle anymore. But thanks for the
suggestions.
What I did was a 600x1200 for printing on 8.5x11 paper (coated or
glossy) this Epson Stylus Color I have, and its getting older by the
minute with the 720x720 dpi maximum. But you're right, I don't spend
much on this "hobby". One note, I tried a business that printed from
diskette however the work is not going to be any better than what's paid
for obviously, meaning meaning most people could probably get fair
enough results on their own with enough incentive.

Well, if you mean CMYK versus RGB, done that. A test of these two output
types seems to favor RGB instead of my printers CMYK (black cartridge
separate) as if the Cyan, Magenta and Yellow are the only things going
in. RGB makes for a blacker black. Printers are all different of course.
I've also upgraded my Epson Stylus Color ESC/P2 driver to a Epson Stylus
Color Pro instead (sounds haphazard, I know) and changed the printer
style (don't know what others have for these kinds of choices) from
Deskjet to Laserjet.
I have much better monitor to printer color now than before. I couldn't
adjust brightness/contrast and color saturation to get a better setup
before and now without any adjustment it does a fair job of it.
Problem is still there though, green is notorious for being off from the
original and no adjustments can fix it.

An odd trick to improve colourprinting I picked up is to use some sort of glossy
paper. It makes the colours more saturated. It's a bit more expensive but I've
seen a friend of mine use it for presentations and he thought it was worth it.
