Is Moray ever going to have direct support for blobs (including editing)? I
find it strange that it still doesn't really support them (aside from
importing)... Is the blob-editing code too difficult to write or something?
Anyways, I think it would be a nice feature.

The preview code for them wouldn't be fun to write, I'd
imagine... solving fourth order polys isn't my idea of a
walk in the park, especially toroidal ones.

But why bother? I'm not interesting.

But I think that Moray already has blob solving code built in, given that
it can read and preview .blb files. So all that needs to happen is that
somebody needs to find out how to get a plugin or suchlike to talk to the
preview code.
Of course it's guaranteed to be massively more complicated than that, but
I'm not a programmer, or even a mathematician... :)
Bye for now,
Jamie.

the blb files were a specific type for the original blod
sculptor... you know I've never looked at their format, but
Im wondering if the preview data isn't somehow placed in
there as a triangle mesh or something...
hm... you're right though I forgot about that support moray
has had for along time...

I find this strange too. After all, it shouldn't require too much. The
wireframe approximation code is already there (you can import blobs). The
only thing that needs to be added is just a little sub-modeller mode
(similar to the bicubic patches editor) which allows you to create and
edit spheres and cylinders and some of their parameters.
Perhaps a plugin?

According to the plugins page on the website, someone was working on a
plugin, but I don't think there've been any updates to it in at least a
year.
To be honest, I think that decent blob support could well give Moray a
boost into being used by people who don't normally use a modeller, but
that's just my opinion.
Bye for now,
Jamie.

or nurbs modelling, or mesh modelling, or patch modelling (like
hamapatch), don't you think? or how about export to other formats like
3ds? pov would finally be able to share with the rest of the world
instead of the rest of the world only sharing (importing to mesh2 for
example) with pov. what do you folks think? of all the major features
you can think of that could be added, how do these rate?

NURBS, I don't see the point in, because POV doesn't, as far as I know,
support them. It already has a patch modeller built in, and it's easy
enough to import hamapatch or sPatch objects into Moray, so I don't see
any burning need for that, exporting to other formats isn't an issue for
me, as I don't have any other renderers, and besides, I like Primitive
based rendering, and don't see any reason to degrade my models into
polygon meshes.
To be honest, about the only feature I consider to be an essential
addition is blobs, if only because it would transform Moray into the only
decent windows based Blob modeller available.
Sorry if this sounds abrupt, but it's only my opinions, which have
minimal, if any weight :)
Bye for now,
Jamie.

I'm not sure if you're agreeing with the statement that my opinions have
minimal weight, or with the points I made, so I'm not sure whether to be
insulted or not <grin>
