To Chris Huff and other interested POV-Ray community members:

I would definitely be willing to write documentation and render examples
for the blob2 patch. But to do so, I would need a compiled, working
patch for Windows.

The documentation would be a collection of local, hyperlinked HTML
files. I would approach the subject in a similar way as I did with the
isosurface tutorial a couple years back. It would come from the
end-user's perspective, giving practical applications, troubleshooting
tips and easy usage guidlines.

Since I'm currently not working, it would give me a singular task to
focus on for the moment, that is, if people are interested in the blob2
patch.

A major concern about developing a new patch is whether or not the
public is really interested in it. I believe the community of POV users
would be interested in blob2, if they knew what could be accomplished
with it. Fabien Mosen hit it right on the head when he said "SHOW
PICTURES to the public". I believe this is how the isosurface became so
popular.

I'm willing to push the project forward an inch or two. If you are
interested, contact me or reply to this post.

Happy POVing!

Sounds great. For a possible inclusion in MegaPOV you should make sure
you don't use too fancy HTML features so it can be converted into
docbook source without problems.

It will probably not be as versatile as the isosurface object but surely
it can be very useful.

I can't help with a Windows compiled version but i am sure someone else
will be able to help.

Great! Would it be fine in console version?

What do you mean 'console version'? Any working patch I could get would
be much appreciated.

I don't know any fancy HTML features, so you can be sure I won't use
them. Just some simple hyperlinks and example images should do the job.

It will be used where an isosurface would not be practical.
Texture-based displacements could still be performed, but with less
precision and possibly more difficulty than isosurfaces. Eroding
surfaces would be quite possible with a simple loop.

I sure hope so. How can we generate enough interest without producing
example images?

Something which work within dos/command box under windowses.

I will announce it in this group when it will be compiled for you - this will
happen near end of this week due to other tasks I have. If anybody is able to
make it earlier, please do it for Samuel.

The blob2 solving method is very similar to that of isosurfaces, though
no code is shared. "Eroding" the surface would be extremely simple, and
I actually plan on adding user-defined function components.

I compiled a win32 binary using MingW.

Currently it is available here:
<http://lutz-peter.hoogi.de/extern/mpp1.0_1win32binary.zip>

but maybe Chris Huff wants to put it on his own webspace?

Thank you very much! Now I have to figure out how to use it :) Again,
much appreciated!

Thanks for the compile, I'm glad there's some interest in this patch.
Maybe I'll have some time to work on it after midterms...right now I
really should be doing my homework. ;-)
