Hi everybody, it's my first post here.
I've recently started to mess around with POV 3.6, and I'd like to use also some
of MegaPOV features. Unluckily, when I run Mega POV, the program uses to
"freeze", either at the start, or when I start a render.
I don't know if it is a system problem (my computer has Windows Vista) or a
compatibility issue between MegaPOV and the 3.6 version, since MegaPOV was
designed to be used with previous versions of POV...
Thanks for any hint

Are you using MegaPOV 1.2.1? That should be based on POV-Ray 3.6.
There may also be issues on Vista depending on install location and
user privileges, but if POV-Ray itself runs fine it's probably ok.

Which version of MegaPOV are you using?

The current one (1.2.1) is actually based on POV 3.6 (3.6.1 to be precise), so
it should go along fine with that without any issues (and it does so on my
machine).

Anyway, I think the only binary code MegaPOV shares with POV are some
3rd-party-libs for image in- and output; you may want to try different output
file formats to see if that's the source of the problem.

You mention Vista. Are we talking about 32 or 64 bit here?

Thanks a lot, the problem evidently is in my system... I have MegaPOV 1.2.1 and
then32-bit version of Vista.
I run mpengine in compatibility mode (98/Me) and giving all permissions (as I
did with POV), but it still freezes. I've noticed that the user interface
changes a bit (the buttons seem "older-style" than POV), but I don't know if it
means anything. Maybe are there any settings in some .INI file that have to be
changed in order to run MegaPOV?
Thanks again

I am not familiar with Vista and its issues. For XP, running megaPOV is as
simple as: 1)install 3.6, 2)download megapov and place executable in /bin
directory, 3)run. No other changes required so I would tend to think it is
something in Vista that is not agreeing with it.

The buttons themselves shouldn't. If they do, you have non-matching versions of
POV and MegaPOV.

The button / menu *bar* style may in fact change though; they do on my computer.
This might depend on the version of Visual Studio C++ the binary was compiled
with.

No. MegaPOV supports a few more, but otherwise just extends POV. It also behaves
exactly the same (or at least it should) unless you change the version statement
in your scene.

Thanks a lot for all hints, but the solution was strange: I could get MegaPOV to
work by disabling visive themes for the file mpengine.exe
So, the things to do are the following (they are the same settings, which I had
found listed in another thread about running POV under Vista), I hope I haven't
forgot anything
- NEVER install the program in the Program Files directory
- for the file mpengine.exe
 - Disable visive themes
 - Compatibility mode XP/Service pack 2
 - Allow all authorization

Thank again to everybody!

Your tips didn't work for me. Please can you or anyone else explain in detail
how to run MegaPov and Pov 3.6 under Vista?

Thanks in advance
Oliver
