Has anybody encountered the following problem: when I hit Ctrl-F1 I get the
following mesage:

Cannot find the C:\PROGRAM FILES\POV-RAY FOR WINDOWS 3.1\\Help\poray31.hlp
file.
Do you want to locate it yourself?
<Yes> <No>

I click <Yes> and I get:
Cannot find the C:\PROGRAM FILES\POV-RAY FOR WINDOWS 3.1\\Help\poray31.hlp
file. Check to see that the file exists of your disk. If it doesnt, you need
to reinstall it.

Did you notice the \\ in the path? Not a typo, that's what the message says.
POV-Ray beta5 crashed during uninstall and even though it disappeared from
the disk and the add/remove list, when installing beta6 it said it detected
an early version... Any ideas?

I didn't notice the \\. I had some difficulties installing beta6 also, so
maybe
this is it...

Can't help you more, sorry :-|

I had the same problem, but I was able to locate the file and I haven't had
a problem since. It started with Beta 5 but it was gone in Beta 6. Who
knows...

Yep, exactly the same on my system. Beta 6 installed flawlessly, so I don't
think it's anything to to with that...

Following myself here. I went through the registry and the inis but this
path was not mentioned anywhere. I guess it's a typo in the source, if so
it's an easy-to-fix bug.

Another thing that bothers me is opening files via explorer. I wasn't able
to do it with 3.0, 3.01, 3.02, 3.1b4, 3.1b5 and 3.1b6. I get an error
similar to "can't find thin .ini file" of "there's an error in this .ini
file". POV seems to be treating the filename as an ini, i.e. the first
parameter after pvengine.exe (like it is in the DOS version) is the .ini
name. I install it correctly and answer <yes> to "open in editor?" Maybe if
I create a file type myself...

Arrrrgh... that's povray there, not poray (we all love typos don't we?).
Sorry.

Martial,

What I mean is the first beta of 3.1 I had was beta 5 and when I started
beta 5 and selected help (to see what was new) it told me it couldn't find
the help file as well. It gave me the option to browse for it (which I did)
and when I found the file I told Pov-Ray to use that instead of whatever it
was looking for and it worked fine and has worked ever since. Sorry to be
so vague...
