I just checked the Pov-Motif site and all the downloadable links are
broken (so, in a nutshell, I can't seem to get it).
I assumed the project went under, and was wondering if there were
another editor out there? Perhaps one with color-highlighting (one of
the features, I must admit, I like about the Win95 version...course, the
95 version seems much slower....even with priorities at their highest).
In any case, if anyone can help me on this matter, usinjg joe and
scripting invloves alot of extra typing, and I'm not very comfortable
with such an interface, heh.

The frontends I am aware of are:
XFpovray (http://lwp.ualg.pt/docs/lg/issue27/xfpovray.html)
JRay (http://www.sucs.swan.ac.uk/~edon/JRay/)

For syntax highlighting you might take a look at the emacs mode for
POVRay. Currently, I'm using an old version, so you should look for a
newer one.

There's one called povfront that uses GTK+ 1.2.

I'll check them all out, but I don't know about EMACS. I don't use Emacs,
I use joe :) Installing a 20MB or so text-editor for Pov-Ray is a bit
much :) I'll be sure to check out the others, though, thanks very much!

Well, I checked em' out....either they didn't work or I couldn't find it in
downloadable form: :(
Does anyone know if these projects are, like POV-Motif, defunct? The only
reason I ask is because the website are rather sparse and the programs
themselves all seem to be beta and hard to obtain....hmmm...

If this is the case, someone needs to make a new Front End to Pov-Ray for
Linux :) (with color highlighting) =)

This may be some of the best 20 MB you might ever have invested into
software (apart from POV certainly :-) ). Once you are into it the
features of emacs are nearly unbeatable. If you are programming in
several different languages it is very neat when the highlighting adapts
to each one. If you have the spare place on your HD and are willing to
learn the basics of the emacs I would give it a difinite try!

Thanks for your interest in POV-Motif.  The archives are off the page by
design.  Limited space on the web server and all that.  If you want, I can
EMail them to you, although they are a little out of date.  POV-Motif was
designed to drive POV-Ray 2.x.  It doesn't support the newer features in 3.x.

I can tell you I'm working on a new GUI interface for POV-Ray that will
include the new 3.x features.  It's written in Java and will run on
anything that has a Java virtual machine available.  That will include
Linux and Solaris.  I'm a few weeks from completion of this product though.
 Interested in giving this a try when I'm ready with it?

I have that friend that refused to use an OS as editor (that's his view
of emacs). 
He was (and probably still is, he is on 5 weeks training) into Nedit.
And I heard that there is a color-highlighting mode for pov as well.
Otherwise just make one ;-)
