You're right the people are placed randomly and uncomfortably close to one
another. As of now these characters are from all walks of life with casual to
formal dress code. Randomly selecting amongst these characters often ends up
with unusual combinations. Now that I've got enough (75) characters, it may be
worth adding a parameter for dress code.
The characters are actually two-dimensional billboards that are picked via
parameters to a macro. The billboard macro has parameters to select the
character, the pose (standing or walking), and the direction (of eight) the
character is facing. These three parameters are used to build a filename that
selects the specific billboard image.
Thanks!
Rob.

Thanks!
The crowd scene was a bit of a diversion from the street scene I've been working
on for a few months. Here's the current WIP of the rest of the street. All the
people are billboards except for the foreground couple. Comments welcome.

Ah yes, that makes sense. I have used that billboard trick before, before I
started with Poser in fact, by using photographs. Interesting to combine it
with Poser figures. In fact the results are much better and easier to
control

Thank you! I shall have a look at it!

Looking good. The flags need more variation though. Too visible that only
one pose was used :-)
For some reason, the billboard effect is a tiny bit less convincing in this
scene, perhaps because one knows about it now... Or because the poses
themselves are not entirely in accordance with street life (with the
exception of the woman with the cell phone).

I've been looking for ten minutes, but I still can't find Waldo. :-(

The cell phone woman IS excellent. Funny Thomas, my reaction was
different, I thought the 'posing' was one of the strengths here, it
seems to capture that slightly odd look of people caught unawares in a
snapshot.
Ridiculous nitpick I suppose, or the eye of a NY cab-driver, but unless
I see a double yellow line down the center of that street, I see those
cars slamming into each other. It's not something you consciously notice
as much as you feel it. Also to give it a little more NY real, you
gotta have at least one J-walker ;)
I find that the foreground trash basket in sharp relief really adds to
the realism, it's a real NY look, NY light, it rivels the scene for me.
Also I like the general look of the highrise glass buildings. The
true feel of the grunge on the street, gummarks etc., and the uniquely
NY 'casual' approach to garbage still eludes.
Maybe also a little more light in the shaded areas would help.

Excellent so far. Love the level of ambition. Did you model the Crown

What I mean is that the different people seem not to be doing what people on
a street tend to do as a majority: walking purposefully towards a goal (even
if they don't have one). I get the impression that these people have been
taken from a different "environment" and dumped on the sidewalk. Now, as I
said, I may be biased because I know how the figures came to be, but still,
I keep an unconfortable out of place feeling.
However, the posing is excellent in itself!
