I've been looking for ten minutes, but I still can't find Waldo. :-(

The cell phone woman IS excellent. Funny Thomas, my reaction was
different, I thought the 'posing' was one of the strengths here, it
seems to capture that slightly odd look of people caught unawares in a
snapshot.

Ridiculous nitpick I suppose, or the eye of a NY cab-driver, but unless
I see a double yellow line down the center of that street, I see those
cars slamming into each other. It's not something you consciously notice
as much as you feel it. Also to give it a little more NY real, you
gotta have at least one J-walker ;)

I find that the foreground trash basket in sharp relief really adds to
the realism, it's a real NY look, NY light, it rivels the scene for me.
Also I like the general look of the highrise glass buildings. The
true feel of the grunge on the street, gummarks etc., and the uniquely
NY 'casual' approach to garbage still eludes.

Maybe also a little more light in the shaded areas would help.

Excellent so far. Love the level of ambition. Did you model the Crown
Vics?

What I mean is that the different people seem not to be doing what people on
a street tend to do as a majority: walking purposefully towards a goal (even
if they don't have one). I get the impression that these people have been
taken from a different "environment" and dumped on the sidewalk. Now, as I
said, I may be biased because I know how the figures came to be, but still,
I keep an unconfortable out of place feeling.
However, the posing is excellent in itself!

Thomas

Interesting to see so much different opinions on one simple part. To me
the cell phone woman looks like a cardboard, IMHO there is something
wrong with the aspect ratio. Most notably in the upper part of the
figure. I might be biased by knowledge, but when I first read the
comment all that remained was that the foreground people were not
cardboard. After deciding that also the phone woman looked like
cardboard I reread and saw Rob mentioned the foreground *couple*.

Question to Rob: are all cardboards perpendicular to the line of sight?
and if not did you stretch the images to correct for that angle?

Heavens no! I got most of the car models from here:

The people were modeled with DAZ|Studio. Each person was rendered eight times
(each time the model was rotated about 45 degrees). The rendered images were
then image_mapped onto a plane and rotated to face the camera.

More details on how the billboards were generated are here:

Yes, the billboards are y-axis rotated to be perpendicular to the camera.
However, what you may have noticed is that the person was rendered with an
orthographic projection (which was easier to setup that a perspective
projection).

I experimented with a perspective projection which gave a more three dimensional
appearance, IMHO.

I've attached an image for comparison

More info about the billboards is here:

Thanks for the feedback!

Rob.
