Evening all.
I saw tonyb's media games, and decided to see how much of a headache I
could give my PC by using media inside media...
The one on the left has two media containers, one external CSG 'shell'
and a central sphere, whilst the one on the right has three concentric
spheres.
Personally, I quite like the left hand object, and all I need to do now
is come up with a reason to use it in an image...
If anybody wants the source code, then you're welcome to it, but it may
take me a while to clean it up, as it was all done from within Moray.
Well, I'm starting to make *far* too many typo's now, so I guess it's
time to go to bed.
Bye for now,
Jamie.

Hmm, looks like a closeup of a blue dwarf star on the left, and a
long-range photo of a red giant on the right.

That was one of the concepts that sprang to mind to explain the LH object
(I had no predetermined goal, I just kept fiddling till it looked right),
but the other one was the small, PSB (PseudoScientific Bulls#!t) freeze
capsule from Demolition Man (ie the Stallone/Snipes Scifi movie)
Or it could be a blast from a freeze gun, or whatever your subconscious
drags up.
One point is that the CSG shell actually overlaps the inner sphere by
.001 POV units (Both objects are spheres 2 units in radius) and without
the overlap, the central mass in in the LH object doesn't look half as
good.
<yawn>
Well, once the current download is done, I'm off to bed, so...
Bye for now,
Jamie.

To me, the left one looks like a shield power-up from Descent :)

If the first one weren't so blue it could be dry ice maybe. Well, anyway,
it looks like something around -200F giving off vapor.
The second one is a good explosion, just change the halo around it to gray
to make smoke...

Everything looks like something from Descent to you. ;)

The (possibly) excessive blue in the LH object was deliberate.
I suppose I should state right off that I am usually pretty heavily
influenced by anime/manga designs and conventions. And besides, I
thought it looked nice :)
I think I need to go back to the original halo around the LH object
though. It was much less diffuse and looked more like vapour being given
off from the aforementioned cold object.
And I don't really think that the RH one works for an explosion, except
possibly in microgravity and vacuum, it's far too regular and spherical.
Thanks for the feedback anyway.
Bye for now,
Jamie.

I've tweaked the density staements on the LH object, and the outer halo
is a little more dense and visible in this version.
On a side note, does anybody out there know how to make a fairly dense
looking media, but through which you can still clearly see an object in
the centre? Specifically, I need a mildly turbulent Mid Orange media,
through which can be clearly seen a Dark Orange Star.
I may be missing something obvious, but the only solution I can come up
with is to texture the Star object as matt Black with an ambient of 1.0,
and allow the media to tint it to the required colour and intensity.
Enough rambling for now,
Jamie.

I think the left reminds me of a cloudy night moon...

Sounds like you could use spherical for that.
