Another element for my IRTC entry. But contrary to what you might think this
isn't a city for the surface of the planet!
This is actually a modifaction of my greeble macro from a while ago (
news:45362e8d@news.povray.org ). This is going to be part of a fleet of
city-ships in the foreground, with the planet in the background.
I'm quite surprised with how easy it was to tweak my greeble macro to get a
nice city shape, and so to show off I'm providing the source in p.b.s-f:

Cool, nevertheless... I could not help looking for the WTC twin towers!
Roughly the kind of city I would like to build on Whatmough (you now,
that Earth-like moon around HD 28185 b)...

I must admit that I set aside other model(s) that I am working on and picked up
this when I saw it. For such simple forms, I find this seriously fascinating.

I tweaked it further in a very simple way to write the triangles to a file
(because I am impatient). I'm sure you've done something similar. Looking
forward to see what you come up with!

I did the same, but only because I wanted to render it with MCPOV to get rid
of those nasty radiosity artifacts (and I'm useless at tweaking those
radiosity settings to anything decent).

Funny think, I am MC-Poving a version right now for comparison. Attached is the
radiosity version of the same scene.
Out of curiosity, does your version write a regular mesh, or a mesh2? I was
thinking about making it write a mesh 2, which I think will reduce the file
size (and parse time).

Nice. Though I rendered it with one of the radiosity presets in rad_def.inc,
Radiosity_Fast. It would look better with a higher quality preset but I only
did this as a test render. It's not really meant to be aesthetically
pleasing, it just happened to turn out that way! :)

Oh I like that!
I avoided using mesh2 in my version because it would be a pain to keep track
of the indices of the quads used for the vertical edges, but if you or scott
wants to optimise it I'd be glad to get that version!
Oh and to answer your earlier question: I don't plan on writing the
triangles into a file, it doesn't take too long to parse and I can easily
hook up some quality settings to do sparser buildings for preview renders.

Now just replace each different shape with a different exterior facade,
and toss in a few exotic shapes, and you'll have your downtown area
pretty much right. Remember to toss in a stadium or two.
