And here is the Rais, freshly out of the taylor's

There still are a couple of minor issues to tackle, but overall, I am 
satisfied with him. The damask effect of the caftan shows beautifully here.

I'm lost for words, really good. 
Is the belt one of the things you want to tweak?

The belt? No not really, although it is a rather difficult object in terms 
of uv mapping. I could use another map.
One issue (not visible) is the scimitar (a Turkish one, comes from a set of 
free goodies from Daz3D) that I forgot to make interact with the caftan; 
Another issue is a piece of shalwar sticking through the boot. Additionally, 
I am not entirely satisfied with the blue of the caftan. I want something 
darker, maybe a bit more purple too. Also the textures of the dagger's hilt 
and scabbard need some attention.
Finally, I want to add a bit of a breeze to the scene. This will have some 
effect on the pirihan and the caftan.

I still wonder why he's not bearded - of course, a long Taliban-style 
beard wouldn't suit this "Rafsanjani-like" guy, but what about a 
close-cropped goatee (like for example that of Phoenician trader 
Epidemais from various Asterix comics)?

Excellent question, Yadgar!

The answer is rather simple: I have not yet found a way to make a beard in 
Poser and none are provided standard. I have seen some beards (I believe for 
Poser 4) but they were not really good. It is something I may try to model 
in Silo first, but the real challenge is the image map!!! I am afraid it 
still is beyond my skills.
I would like him to have a thin ring beard and moustache.
In fact, he has a faint beard, as included in the face image map, but it 
doesn't come out very well, at least at this scale (see the attached image 
from an earlier test render in Poser).

Seriously, it's an unqualified success.  All the changes I can see are
definite improvements.  The red fabric looks much richer.  The black boots
seem much more appropriate. The drape and sweep of the fabric is more
dramatic. I'm really looking forward to seeing him "in action".

Thank you indeed Mike. It is sometimes a little thing that makes all the 
difference. Here it was just adding a couple of image maps to already 
existing materials, and the combination improved tremendously the whole.

Thomas, he looks great! You are a Poser clothing expert now. :) I like the
texture_maps you used on his robe for the damask. They came out very nice.

Thank you indeed, Janet.
As far as dynamic clothes are concerned, the whole process is fairly simple 
and straightforward. It takes some time though, to imagine and build the 
basic form and find appropriate image maps. That is where a collection of 
maps comes in handy. For the damask I was helped by the fact that there were 
a couple of nice image maps for the design to be found on the web, which I 
could add to a texture I had created in PaintShopPro.
In fact, I had more problems initially with the (DAZ) sword and dagger props 
because they behaved odly in the Poser environment. My solution in the end 
was simply to export them, adapt and correct them in Silo, and re-import 
them into Poser as my own props.

I am thinking about conforming clothes too... but that is a different 
story...  :-)
