Thanks, and after fiddling with it, I tend to agree on the camera angle. For
now, I've just added a texture to the floor, I'm as of yet unsure if I'll
add more detail to it, or leave it as it is.

Hm, interesting thoughts. But I rather wanted to focus on the Rose, rather
than create some detailed background. The current backdrop provides enough
detail to look nice and enhance the background, but doesn't call for
attention. Additionally, I don't have much time left, and I'd rather have
something realistic renderingwise, than actual realism in the scene.

I've tried that. Now that I'm onto a more sunset setting, radiosity adds
that touch of color which is needed for realism. I was able to lower the
level of detail on the radiosity though with using a saving/loading step
which I've also described on my webpage.

Tim

Thanks for the praise. I'm glad the rose did go so well with the first
attempt. This way, I can focus on the scene in its entirety and experiment
with other stuff, rather than fiddle with the rose until it seems like one,
but then have no time for the remaining part of the image...

Tim

Hi

Make the pilars a slight pink colour! and post process to get rid of the
slight grey quality of the image
I to feel it's worth thinking about raising the camera.

I really like where this is going. I'd be delighted if MY partner
presented me with something like that. :-)

The sky is nice. The pillars are good too - interesting without being
attention-stealing. And of course, the rose. I do like that slightly
dark red colour. (Oddly, the stem looks like a giant jelly bean - must
be the angle or something, becuase it didn't before. LOL!)

Keep up the good work - and let us all know if she actually LIKES it. ;-)

in my thoughts a background would give more depth to image. it could
have less details maybe added with some fog.
of course focus should lay on your rose.
but only my thoughts.

question: will the image get a more realistic or more comic touch?
for me it looked like second one.

A stylistic touch, hence the CSG Rose, but overall a realistic scene. Maybe
something like a sculpture or something would best define what I'm after:
something artful, yet photorealistic in its own sense.

I've modified the sky now, it's colored properly for a sunset, as is the
sunlight itself. Along with some colored radiosity and, due to the colored
light, more spectactular cloud-colors, I've removed most of the "grey
quality". I've noticed that as well, and a sunset really helps.

As for raising the camera, I've lowered the focus somewhat to obtain a less
upward-looking feeling, and I'm rather pleased with it. I still want to have
a tendency towards the sky though, so I think that part of the composition
is done. I'll post the latest tomorrow or the day after. Thanks for the
suggestions though, Mick!

Tim

Hm, didn't we have that discussion already? ;-)

In the latest version, which I really like so far, I've raised the
ambient-value for the rose's textures, so that it'll glow a little with
radiosity. Point with the new sunset was the backlighting, I needed to get
the details back and wanted to highlight the rose somewhat, and I've found
that raising the ambient-value (for this scene at least) also provided
somewhat more contrast.

As for jelly beans, I think Freud would say that you're actually seeing
jelly beans because you want them, right here, right now! Go get some! :-)

Thanks, I will.

How about adding a compass rose
http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&safe=off&q=%22compass+rose%22+&btnG=Search
to the floor?

They make nice marble floors, and it makes for a good pun.
