Reflection in the table: Why can you see the reflection of the silver
beads in the table surface? In reality, this wouldn't happen. Is there
a PoV answer to this, pov-people?

I used Runes logo.inc for this, (thanks Rune), and translating was
hell for sure - it took me the whole of today to get this far.

(Prize: three frozen mackerel for the person that spots the translate
problem between the two cufflinks - soon to be fixed!)

  Hope you like it/them.

Not sure why it wouldn't happen. Is this the blurred reflection issue?
You've seen the use of varieted "micro normals" technique to accomplish
blurred reflection, right? Published by Jaime Vives Piqueres, Ron
Parker, and others. Or is it something else?

What seems more inconsistent to me is the reflection of the back of one
cufflink in the other.

You mean the constant micro adjustments and rerendering to test. Never
tell your wife that that is how you spent the day!

Nope, can't spot it.
I always do the worst on those types of tests.
"The car lacks one headlight", "The woman has no nose", etc.

No, not the blurred reflection issue - I think(?) Simply put, if
something is at an angle, like the left-hand cufflink, maybe 37-40
degrees, then the reflecting horizontal plane (of whatever), shouldn't
be able to 'see' those beads (or the PoV 'P') above it. They would be
blocked by the underside of the cufflink in the reflection. The true
reflection would just be the back of the cufflink, right?

I think I see your point - it looks as though something is missing
in that reflection on the right-hand cufflink? I wanted to move that
right-hand cufflink further back, so that a lot of the left-hand
cufflink was reflecting more in the right-hand one, but the
translating of that right-hand PoV 'P' was an agonising task, and I
just left it that for now.

LOL! Thanks Jim, you should see my face now - ear to ear! Made my
day! :o)

Well, I'm the same, but you may not spot it as it's a jewellery
thing, not a PoV thing, but keep looking! ;)

Thanks for the laugh, I needed it.

Only if you were actually viewing it from behind I think.

There is nothing actually wrong with it, it's just that the whole
spacial relation is a little hard to reconcile.

You mean you didn't build the objects first, then position them?

Not that you needed me to tell you that I'm sure, but can you imagine?
The *luckiest* possible outcome would be that she would roar laughing
and only for about six months or so.

Question for a jeweller. Do you sell many cuff links?

The left cufflink is at an angle probably around 40 degrees to the
surface of the table, I don't know about you, but when I look in the
mirror, I can't see the back of my head. Certainly, 'some' of the
beads should be reflected, but imo, the top beads or the P shouldn't.
On the right-hand cufflink, the P would block the view of the top
beads in real life.

 texture {T_Wood14
 finish { diffuse .05 ambient -.4 specular .3 roughness .001
reflection .03 }}}

Did I do something wrong with this?

I see the palm of my hand in a mirror, I don't see the back of my
hand...?

Now I know what you mean after studying it more. That cufflink on
the right looks as though it shouldn't be reflecting a bit of the left
one. I think it's my camera settings:

  location <0, 2.33, -2.55>
  look_at <0.35, .7, 0.2>

I built the cufflinks first, then added the Pov P to both
seperately. I know I should have used 'union' in there somewhere, but
I'm not used to that yet.

A fair few, probably around 20-30 pairs a year in gold. The problem
with cufflinks is that most men want a particular style, i.e. if
they're fanatical football followers, then they want something with
their teams name on it, or if F1 fans, then a miniature Ferrari, or
artists, a paintbrush and pallette. ;)

When do we get to see the real prototype? That's the cool think about
your jewelry pictures, always some chance that they'll turn real.

I'll take that as a compliment, thank you, I enjoyed every hassly
problem creating this. All created in sPatch... (apart from the Pov
P). Wings is next... ;)

Well, I can make the real model/s in silver and upload some pictures
to my (unused for the moment) website, explaining how they were made
in real time. Would this be a cool thing to do?
