Hi guys, this is a Pov-ray rendering of a CAD-model I did in Pro/Engineer.
I made 17 motorcycles like this since 1996, each CAD-model is about 300 MB.
I have been experimenting with POV-ray and really like the results, but I
could use some help:
does anyone out there have a good material description for aluminum, I would
like to make it look like
glass beaded aluminum, somehow the aluminum in "textures.inc" seems to
smooth to be realistic.
Also I am reasonably good at drawing bikes but terrible at doing
backgrounds,
sofar all the Povray-images I made have the same sky/water background and I
am getting bored with that...
If anyone has some tips I would be very gratefull.

If you don't feel happy with your own backgrounds, why don't use
other people objects or scenes for making a background?.
Here you have a lot of objects:
cgi-bin.spaceports.com/~pov/
Also, the obvious
www.povray.org/resources/links/POV-Ray_Include_Macro_and_Object_Files/Object
_and_Scene_Files/

Apart from that, I want to say that I'm impressed with
your models. I can see that you have invested a lot
of time and dedication to them.
They are simply perfect.
And a very nice website, btw.
Bye

Hi DM, very nice, I love HD's. As Txemi has mentioned, you've
put a *lot* of hours into this (and other stuff on your site - love
the sketches! ;)
Why don't you have a play with heightfields? I can just see one of
your HD's parked-up on a long hot road with a couple of good mountains
to pass through in the distance? Stick a sun up there somewhere for
some ace shadow effects and bingo. Sorry, can't help with the
aluminium texture, but I'm sure you'll soon sort that out.

Oh, and that rubber for your tyres? Excellent.

   Looking forward to the next.

ATB and have a good one.

Hi Steve, the rubber for the tires is : texture { pigment { color red 0.200
green 0.200 blue 0.200 }}
Couldn't be simpler ;-)
I attached an image I did last night, it is one of the sample files that
comes with Povray 3.5 (isocacti) with one of my CAD-bikes stuck in.
Well, trike in this case. Would you believe that I had never even bothered
to look at the samples untill now.....

     Heh... is that it?? :oO

Actually, in this image they look a little pale compared to your
other image, but what I meant was the actual texture looks bang on for
tyre rubber.

Nice scene though. How about trying a group scene of some of your
bikes? Perhaps the render time might take too long? :(

A friend of mine built a bright yellow trike some time ago and
stuck a 4.2 Jag motor in it. It wasn't roadworthy, but it certainly
was terrifying to sit on it when he opened it up... ;)

Yep, I was the same. Keep looking DM, there's a lot of useful stuff in
those files by some very clever people. ;)

Now that sounds cool, did he try to put it on the road?

No, he lives on a small farm, so we ragged around the fields on
it. It was an automatic, so you could just open her up. The idea was
to get it roadworthy but he kept whacking into things and got fed up
with repairing it. Heh.. just remembered, he built a ramp to take off
from too. That didn't do it a lot of good. ;)
