A windows wallpaper[1] work in progress.
Several days (done in several chunks) render time @ 1152x864, aa0.01, am2
Reduced to 576x432 in PSP.

Whip out your red-blue glasses to see it in full effect...

Things to do :

Add 'environment' - it'll eventually sit on a desk in the corner of a room.
Add fiery media inside glass globe.
Add photons.
Grow old while it renders.
(Possibly) render 3D anim.

Comments or suggestions welcome.

After I found my red/blue specs once again I was unsure about that other
unconnected axis in the center part.
Then I realized it's extending to a glass globe there. The way all other
points are matched with rings I thought something was wrong at first then.
I'm guessing it's the reflection which really confused me. Maybe it shouldn't
be that much, or is that actually refraction instead?

I think the pov team needs to sell "POV-Ray 3d glasses" on their web
page.

same red as my glasses :)

Looks great (what is a fire globe btw?), the colours are
sifted out perfectly by my glasses (if that is the right expression). I
do have a little difficulty in seeing the glass globe...
I would like to know how you go about making this?? :))

    Sorry - didn't do any colour correction on it before I posted it - it
could also be a monitor gamma issue ? on my PC, with my red-blue glasses it
looks good but not perfect - some of the red gets through the blue lens and
some of blue & green gets through the red lens, but it's good enough for the
error not to get in the way (just makes it look like it's got an odd 'glow'
around it).

    Red-blue one's will do.

    Yeah, it does look a little odd - even at 1152x768 it's a little
difficult to make out the glass sphere, but, I hope that will improve as I
add to the scene - some reflections of the room it stands in and a splash of
photons should help, I think. I may also try thickening the glass a little.

    There's both reflection and refraction in there :

// Frame and stand material.
#declare ChromeMaterial=
material {
 texture {
  pigment { color rgb 1 }
  finish { specular 1 roughness 0.001 metallic reflection 0.5 }
 }
}

#declare GlassMaterial=
material {
 texture {
  pigment { color rgbf 1 }
  finish { specular 1 roughness 0.0001 reflection 0.25 }
 }
 interior { ior 1.5 }
}

    Cheers. A fire globe, well, it's a globe of fire. Just a figment of my
imagination - once I figure out the correct combination of emmiting and
absorbing media, the glass sphere will become partly filled with a kind of
fiery plasma effect.

> I do have a little difficulty in seeing the glass globe...

    Yeah - see my reply to Bob for more on this.

> I would like to know how you go about making this?? :))

    Er, which bit - the modelling or the 3d-effect ?
