I've been tweaking this on and off for a couple of months now,
so unless there are massive comments I think it's done.

Books on shelves created with Giles Tran's MakeShelf macro.
Open book on table by Marcus J. Ertl from the Pov objects
collection. The landscapes seen through the windows were
rendered in Vue d'Espirit 2

The media (floor) looks a little weird but I kinda like it.

Not sure about render time as I've been leaving it to render
while at work, but I would estimate around 200 hours for the
800*600 version. Pic below is resized from 800*600

Comments? Criticisms?

Gail

I really like this, the only thing that seems strange is
the stepping of the floor over on the right hand half
of the image. It's asthough you've got a solid floor
with steps and a fog above the floor thic seems to have
sharp steps in it also, which would suggest to me that
you have used media in containers that have sharp edges.

It's got a mystical feel to it.

Very cool, so cool I'll pick it apart with suggestions:

1) Wood looks a little bit too new and the furniture a bit too fragile,
like something you'd see on sale at Office Depot.
2) More books: empty shelves--is it a new magician or what?
3) More contrast between books--make them big tomes.
4) I don't like the edges of the rock structures.
5) Misty ground is cool, but shouldn't there be some way to get in &
out?

I like it ... my comments

- the proportions of the furniture (desks, chairs) seem wrong, not high
enough (or to wide)
- wall, wood look all new, some more seasoned look would be great
- I like the idea of the fog and the floating pedestals ... hey - it is a
magicans office after all
- work on the lights, right now it is pretty uniform, some well defined
light sources and shadows might generate depth and 'mystery'

nice work !

Add to that,

6) Views through windows look flat, like a painting, as opposed to a 'view',
especially that on the right wall. This is probably due to the angles
involved between the window and the mountain within it.
7) Something about the triangular windows bugs me. Perhaps it's their
constant color, or something. Also, the little white spot (moon?) in the
triangle above the back window looks more like an error than anything.
Remove it?

I like the floor actually. In fact I think the rest looks a bit too 'clean',
possibly caused by the lighting. It's a pity that the book cases are in the dark
and the corner with the windows is much lighter. This seems a bit odd, though
that's probably the magical nature. The same goes for the two windows with the
two landscapes who don't seem to fit together.
Still, I think the light in the topright corner attracts too much attention,
taking it from the rest of the scene.

The foggy floor and placement of library artifacts is suggestive of a
graveyard? Classic graveyard groundmist with headstones? Or is it
merely dreamscape? The scenes in the windows are obviously separate and
one looks to be your winning entry from irtc nature round?
The mix of death/horror and books is suggestive of Lovecraft? Is there
personal iconography here? The leitmotif of the receeding lamps near the
bookshelves is strange, the most dreamlike in a way. The juxtaposed
textures of wood and stone seems personal, idiosyncratic. Paul Delvaux?

I'm not sure what caused that, could be shadows

There's a plane under the fog. The media container is a large box.

dust, dirt and age is one area I have massive trouble with

Where? Shelf on the right has bottles others are quite full

which? the floating pillers or the blocks along the side?

If y' can't levitate, y' don't belong in there. <grin>

I was thinking about adding a 'librarian' on a magic carpet, but I
decided it would probably spoil the pic.
