I made this spaceship in Rhino at school in a computer graphics class.
Of course, I got way ahead of the others. Maybe I should tell the
teacher about POV-Ray.

For some reason this looks like a camera to me :)
I think its the angle. Its a good base model, but it obviously needs some
work. I understand that you're just starting out, so I won't be harsh :)
The back of the vessel has features, but the front is lacking, drawing all
the attention toward the back. This may be what you want, but it can also
make the object just look wrong.
When working with POV-Ray, remember that it is also a modeler in addition
to being a raytracer. Rhino is great for working with complex shapes, but
its not built for larger scenes (prove me wrong :)). I'd start by giving
the ship some more details, and TEXTURES :). Start with what you have
already, the engine thingies. Put a flame/other exhaust coming from them.
Give them a more blackened rougher look. Maybe move some parts of the ship
toward a white color, or maybe just apply a large texture map? (its harder
than you think).
I think textures is step 1. Step 2 would be to model some seperate weapons
pods or something of the sort (keep them as seperate objects so you can
work with them in POV easily).

No maybe about it. Show the teacher some of the work done by different
people here in the group, different styles, levels of realism. Then
say the program is free. You should get a convert.

It looks like something strange is happening with your antialiasing. The
diagonal lines look very rough. Did you stretch this from a smaller
resolution? If you want something simple to try with this model, you could
use some of the metal textures that are included with POV-Ray and put a
checkered plane underneath it. Ask anybody... We've all tried it. :-)
Also, you might want to move your light source higher up so that it gets the
top of the space ship. Change the camera so that it is looking right at the
center of the model. Keep playing with Rhino while you can. It's not a
cheap program when you're not doing it in school.

I will need some view ports in the front to balance it out.

Ok. Textures will be the next thing.

Maybe I should change some parts of it to pov primitives and put that into a
different file. Now it's all made of meshes
of smooth triangles.

I did not stretch it out. I rendered it at 512x384 but it got changed to
667x500 when I converted it to jpg.
