There wer more footprints, but last night, it snowed, so most of them
have been covered. ;)

A house in in the works. And a few trees.

It looks static because the 3-Star General of G.R.O.S.S. (Get Rid Of
Slimy girlS) is well hidden in his undefeatable stronghold, patiently
waiting for Suzy Derkins to carelessly wander by, unaware of the
impending doom that awaits her!

She might be in the pic, too.

I like this pic!

And Calvin and Hobbes is my favorite cartoon. :)

Here goes my attempt ar using "cleverness" in criticism...

Good:

I really like the modeling you did on the snow fort. It has just the
right bumpiness, etc.

I like the mountains and the use of fog.

"Bad":

Some of the elements are just too perfect. The flags are really tall
and the same height, the fabric looks like it was bought (i.e. not made
by Calvin). The snow balls are stacked too neatly and are exactly the
same size, etc.

It looks pretty desolate, kinda like it's in the middle of nowhere.
Maybe you could put in some trees or something. There are some good tree
macros out there.

"Ugly":

The other thing is that there is too much crand in the picture. The far
away snow just wouldn't reflect the light that way. Maybe you could use
some kind of material_map of texture_map or something to reduce the
crand farther away.

I have no idea what the yellow thing is poking up above the fort. Is it
Calvin's hat??? Plus, where is Hobbes?

Encouragement:
Keep going, this will be pretty cool when it is fully developed.

That's going to change.*

That too.*

As well as that.*

As I said to Geoff, trees are on their way.

It's not crand, it's a crackle normal, as I mentioned in an earlier
post, it looks a lot better with Anti-aliasing method 2.

Yes it is. Still working on it.*

Hrm... On a scouting mission?

Thanks.

* That's why it's called a "work in progress"!

Nice idea for the topic.

The snow should have some more medium scale structure in the foreground
IMO.

Good point.

Darn, that "to do list" is getting long!

Nice idea, but yet another that the IRTC judges will
be fed up with by the time it comes to voting.

Great idea! hehe
I think it's a bit too perfect. I'd maybe use RMF with very slight features
for the foreground, but whatever it is looks a bit too spherey. I think the
flags look too rigid. Someone here who's written cloth-simulation can
probably help immensely with that. Right now that's probably the majority of
my ciriticism. And add some slight perturbation to the snowballs and snowball
piles.

Duly noted.

No problem. I just used default stiffness and strenght (sic - see my
post in p.u.p). I'm currently noodling around with the values.

Already on the "to do list". The snowball piles, flags and hat are
currently just "place-holders", while i finish building the scene.

You have GOT to ad some of Calvin's weardo snow sculptures in there
somewhere. Would'nt be a Calvin & Hobbs scene without them.
