This has taken me about 3 days to put together. It's a quick render, no
area_lights, so don't think that banding will be in the final pic.
Comments?

You want to discourage everyone to enter the next round, right?
It looks quite great of course.
How did you make the whole water stuff?

3 days!?! Comments? Nothing printable. Well, just one, could you post some
details? I'm clinging desperately to the hope that this is just a mess of
approximations and it's underlying paucity will be revealed in a few
close-ups.
I jest. Like you say, there are some lighting and texture probs. Still, a
couple of nano-secs work should sort them out ;)

Please, elaborate! I want this to be the best it can be.

A power generation station of some sort? Or just a flying city
replenishing its power supply? I can't think of any other reason for it
to hang around that (wonderful looking) waterfall, unless it's occupants
are just admiring the view. Hmm...a restaurant? ;-)
I notice a glow under those pods at the bottom, but it's barely visible,
and I can only see it under two pods...and some signs of intelligent
life would be nice, maybe a small flying craft coming in for a landing.
I like the texturing and color scheme, the green color of the lower part
is a nice touch...maybe a large sign painted on that large ring
structure or the dome on top, just some text that doesn't look like it's
from any human civilisation.
Only 3 days?!?
Is the waterfall a height field? I notice some triangle shapes on the
left.

What would be the point? Gilles would beat me anyway.

Wrinkles normal, bozo pigment, reflection. Nothing special.

Well, IMHO the clouds look decidedly odd. The water is mostly good, but
looks peculiar on the right of the image and in the hole (it goes rather
flat) - it could be that I'm meant to be looking at water-mist, but if so
this doesn't seem obvious.
Finally, I feel the day is too bright for the window lights to show up so
clearly.

maybe, but not in velocity :-)

isosurface? heightfield? mesh?
BTW, the part right of the 'object' looks a bit strange.

Very probably. Actually, my image is coming together nicely though. I
might still enter. :/
So this is what you do? Give me a project to render for you so that I spend
time on that rather than my own (superlative, of course) image? ;) :P
*hmph* See if I offer you a supercomputing cluster again.

Just curious, do you do anything else in those days? Is it three days of
just sitting there banging away? This would take me 3 months if I could do
it at all, but then I can only work for about an hour or so a day.
