I have made a macro that makes trip-lets. It's really simple, and I doubt
anyone would actually use it, but it's my first macro, so I put it up on a web
page. Check out http://www.mindspring.com/~jacksonmead for the stuff. The
font needs some work, but I was more interested in the macro part. I had to
leave a little bit on the edges of the block, otherwise some letter
combinations had letters taking chunks out of each other (the z-axis letter
interfering with the y-axis letter, for example). I may diddle around with it
some more, or I may move on to more interesting stuff. I'd love to see any
other attempts at this or improvements on my attempt.

Hi, Ryan (and everyone else). Please see message "IRTC CDROM's and
supporting this site [14-June-1999]" in the announcement group.
The POV-Team has decided that sales of the IRTC CD-ROMs is the best
overall solution, as well as the simplest. It provides a nice archive
for those who appreciate the IRTC and POV-Ray, as well as generating
some form of income to help offset the costs of maintaining this server.
In general, we feel that people are more likely to make a one-time
purchase of these annually-released, low-priced CD-ROMs than to commit
to something long term like becoming a CompuServe member, which would
have supported these operations several years ago. We'd also like to
avoid, for lack of a better term, the 'beg-athon' when we need to
upgrade some hardware on the server machine. Because small contributions
may be mailed from just about anywhere in the world, a fee will likely
have to be paid to a bank to convert to local currency. Way too much
trouble and takes too long when a failing drive needs to be replaced
like *right now*.
Please order your IRTC CD-ROMs, folks. This how you can help support
this server in the long term. I've purchased all three available IRTC
CD-ROMs <hint, hint>. Thank you for your support :)

I, too, was inspired by G.E.B. The problem with making a macro is that not
all 3 letter combinations can be carved out of a block. I discovered this
while trying to do my wife's initials (CFF). Any two letters can be done,
though. The gothic-lettered ones, as I recall (lost the code in a hard
drive crash) were made with a union of two paper-thin text objects, one
rotated.

I mean 3 paper-thin text objects, two rotated.

I just found the code for the image (sorry about not putting the file size
in the subject). I re-did it in MegaPOV. You'll find it in
.binaries.scene-files.

(Does anyone besides me read year-old posts?)
It occurs to me that this thing might look even better if it could
somehow be done as blobs with parametric sheets for cores. (The sphere
has a point for a core, and the cylinder component has a line segment.)
But I'd want the blob components not to add where the strokes of the `A'
meet.
Yet another idea for a patch that I'll write any century now!
