...break your mesh's back.
Hooray! My browser seems to have FINALLY resolved whatever trouble it was
having with Mike Williams' isosurface tutorial so, in honor of this hallowed
day (not that y'all should care, but it's also my 15th wedding anniversary),
I'm posting this 16pps nightmare that I did while waiting for the web to
clear. It's a mesh1 internal function wedded (ahem, blobbed) to a crackle
pigment function in Superpatch--5 hour render, now let's see if I can learn
how to tweak the code to speed it up.

Very nice! I was thinking "people leaping through the air" for like 10 seconds.

That sounds awfully slow, yes. Happy anniversary!

I too thought it was dozens of people jumping through the skies. Pretty hefty
render time, huh? You might try adding or subtracting the pigment from the mesh:
function mesh( x, y, z )+crackle_tex( x, y, z )/4 to make the render time
faster.
Mike Williams has an isosurface tutorial? What's the site address? Does this
mean I'm off the hook with mine? I gotta stop being lazy....
Congratulations on your wedding anniversary! May you two have a wonderful life
together!

Yep. http://www.econym.demon.co.uk/isotut/ No. ;)

You spent your 15th wedding anniversary rendering images with POV?
That reminds me of an idea I had for a new group on this server:
povray.widows
:)
Later,
Glen
P.S. It's a cool image, and happy anniversary to you and your spouse.

Heh. You betcha--except that the PoV newsgroups are already MY support group
for persons who are married to Pagemaker-addicts.
Thanks,

Interesting interpretation you two made. I'm as likely as the next guy to
see three balloons and think, "Mickey Mouse!", but, more often, I look at
things that seem visually obvious to other people and make cognitive
nonsense out of them. Pictorial dyslexia, if you will.

Thanks for the suggestion; I'll give it a try. This picture is supposed to
be a stepping-stone to something even more complicated, and it's annoying to
have to sleep on the test renders.
I'd like to thank all here who have posted their experiences with the
isosurface, and particularly the tutorial writers: Ryoichi Suzuki, Samuel
Benge, and Mike Williams. The isosurface patch seems to be the key to my
deeper interest in PoV lately. And no, Sam, you're not off the hook. Mike
directed everyone to you for the basics (then covered most of the same
ground anyway), but any two people are going to have different ideas about
what the isosurface is FOR. Besides, we all know that you've been exploring
the territory, and it would be nice to see where you've been.

You know, as much as I hate to find myself quoting The Grateful Dead, they
certainly said it best:
WHAT A LONG, STRANGE TRIP IT'S BEEN!

You're welcome :) Isosurfaces can do many things. With the incorporation of
using pigments as functions, even more can be done.

Okay, okay. I hope to get some more of the tutorial done next month. I'm working
on a project now that will probably keep me tied up for the rest of this month.
Check out the image I posted today.
