If you have been actively collecting Isosurfaces from the groups
contributions would be most welcome. I do anticipate that an Isosurface
Library will be one of our premier attractions though and the TAG will
have the advantage that povray.org already has a tremendous amount of
traffic to help with it's exposure. With the Macro Library I have the
complete collection that was at Twyst's site to seed it with and I need
only go through them and get permission from the original submittors
to include them in the new library.

It's good to see people actually responding to this thread :)

I understand that the POVray site will be up and running soon with all these new
libraries and everything but will there be

news about new softwares
interview's with artists
pictures of the week
animation of the week
reviews about new software or #include files
tutorials, tips and other stuff?

Those are a couple things I had planned on incorporating into Planet POV.

There are still things that require a humanly touch as opposed to just being
generated by machine. That is what I would offer. There is so much going on in
the POV-Ray community and I'm sure people would like a site that keeps them up
to date with current softwares and happenings.

You'll do us and everyone else a great favor if you keep collecting
them isosurfaces, especially if you are willing to share the results
of your efforts with us when the time comes. If what you have in mind
is making an isosurface colleciton site, I don't see why the TAG
project should be a stopper for you. After all, there are millions of
redundant sites on the net, but who cares as long as they serve their
purpose, right?

That is a good point.

We will probably avoid stuff like reviews of software, interviews, and the
pictures/animations of the week kind of scenarios.
As far as tutorials and
upgrades to the POV-Ray documentation we will be soliciting the public for
these types of materials. We (the TAG) think that even though the POV-Ray
documentation is comprehensive there are areas that it cannot cover and
that once an official release has been made that areas of the docs may
need clarification after the fact. For this reason we are going to try to
become a documentation and tutorial store house for the Pov community. We
haven't even discussed how we are going to accomplish this yet but it is
on our growing list of things to do.

I am not trying to discourage you from setting up your own POV-Ray related
site and in fact it might be a great idea for you to do so. I for one plan
on using my considerable contacts as the Linkmaster to scrounge around for
resources to add to the TAG's web pages. If your site contains content that
may help the TAG site you may be contacted to share some of that material
with us and the rest of the POV-Ray community. On the other hand with some
of these libraries that we have planned and in the works you may want to
avoid them just for the sake of avoiding duplication of efforts. People
should also remember that any resources that the TAG makes available to
the public will be done so with the official sanctioning of the POV-Team
and therefore will be official POV-Ray resources (even though contributors
retain intellectual rights to submitted materials).

Speaking as my TAG member self, we have not yet considered putting the
first four on the TAG page, and now as my usual self, I don't think
they would belong there anyway.

My two thumbs up for the project!

Doesn't look POV enough.

People who offer to host a site with all the POV resources
available come and go, there is so much work involved and
people don't seem to notice this until they start. I
didn't answer the message because the feeling that I have
about such projects these days is "I'll beleive it when I
see it".

One idea that springs to mind is a page or pages for different
sections, where there are thumbnails of all the standard example
source files, with the name clearly stated for each one, and
a link to the zipped up source file (behind the image).

Thumbnail: You know when you've seen one of the example scene's
and you want to use one of the features in it but
you cna't remember what it was called, and have deleted
all the old images from your temporary render directory.

Filename: So that you can go off line and find the file on your
own machine, render it if you like or just use the bits
of code that you're inetersted in.

Zipsource: So that you can d/l the source for that scene and use
it's features. I beleive that some distributions
of various patches come without all the example scenes,
others might have deleted scenefiles accidently or
purposely before doing upgrades (thinking old files will
cause problems with the upgrade perhaps).

Maybe even include poges like this for unofficaial patches aswell.

How so? You want me to make it reflective and put it on a checkered plane,
or something? Will it look POV enought then? ;)

I'll run your suggestion past the rest of the TAG and see what they
have to say about it. Anyone else reading this think there is merit
behind this suggestion ?

Wait. Don't need to put the demo files which are already distributed with
POV-Ray up on a web site. Makes no sense. What does make sense is the preview
images of each scene file by name. In fact wouldn't that be great as html with
the official distribution, except for the added file size. Dang, now it's got
me thinking of hyperlinking from within POV-Ray to extract pov script and render
as you browse your computer or the internet. Too much MS Windows over the years
for me I suppose.
