My darn browser keeps losing the POV newsgroups... and
I'm needing some traffic in here to make sure I've got
things locked down...

this time the animation is at 24fps.

This didn't make any difference for me, how annoying that you can't
depend on this MS Media Player. And I don't understand why Vahur sees
the first nicely. I have exactly the same version :(

In the Tools menu, Options... then Formats, is Mpeg (Movie) File checked?

It is, though the checkbox is dark grey when first seen (meaning?).
Whichever way: it makes no difference. there is no message when it
refuses to play the mpg. The play button just is inoperative and the
screen utterly black.

Tells how to go about the codec stuff.
The Cinepak by Radius was (is) one of the old Windows AVI codecs.
Maybe there was a audio layer and it somehow garbled things in a mild way.
I had no trouble seeing the butterfly fluttering in WMP 7.0 either.
I have DirectShow (some DirectX thing?) installed too I guess. So many
variables, obvious the multimedia idea hasn't merged into something a single
player can handle.

Things like this seem to happen all the time, and it
pisses me off too. I just got through reformatting and
reinstalling my OS and it leaves one feeling rather
clean... everything seems to work nicely now too... not
that I'm suggesting you try the same. :o)

I assume other MPG's are working out alright on your
machine, correct? The MPG I sent really is a M1V or
whatever the ending is for no-sound MPG's (ala AVI2MPG)
but that shouldn't make a difference, I don't think.

Speaking of problems with Media Player,
I don't use it anymore since I discovered Axialis Media Browser. It's
available free as shareware from http://www.axialis.com/index.html It is so
convenient and user-friendly, I feel like I have to tell everyone about it.
You can view and organize not only animations and music, but any kind of
graphics files, with thumbnails. Take a look for yourselves.

I tried it: I keep having problems with it, too! More than half the
mpg's I have in p-b-a cannot be played!! One thing is convenient:
Axialis shows immediately which files are OK and which aren't.
Unfortunately the program locked and I had to forcefully stop it. No use
to me :(

I suppose I have to do a new installation of W2k: there are probably too
many things wrong on my system...

Thanks Bob: it applies to WME, W95 and W98 only :( I'll look further on
the site.
In ACDSee I can see nearly every animation alright, but it annoys me
that the normal programs don't work.
Probably something wrong here with my system: I will think about a re-
install of everything, but that I don't like much either!
Dam, this shouldn't cause so much trouble!
