I am new to Moray and POV and am having difficulty creating bent tubes.
I am trying to model a Mountain bike handlebar and other "bendy stuff"
such as the cables and frame.

My favorite tool for doing that would be STOMP 3D. It has extrude along
spline path functions, NURBS and a few other cool features. And its 100%
free. The only down side is that it doesn't export to Moray. But, if you
get enough conversion utilities, you can convert the files to a moray
UDO/INC file.

... or if you would like to avoid learning a whole new modeling process,
a large download, and gain a useful utility that was designed soley for this
pupose try the all new program called Piper by Mike Weber.

This looks like it only codes for b-spline camera paths.

It also does tubes/pipes. Such is the reason for the name ofthe utility. I helped do a
little
beta work on it before his public
release so I know it will do curved tubes/pipes.

If you want to model (not script) your objects, and also do this in a
modeller that can export to Moray format, try TreeDesigner at
http://www.algonet.se/~jhubert/TreeDesigner.
Although TD was meant for trees, a bike-frame can be easily created with
TD.
Note: TD does not model "real" curved/bent objects, but rather
approaches "bendedness" by putting together lots of cylinders: The more
(and shorter) cylinders, the higher the "resolution" of the "pipe" and
the less visible (and soon invisible) it is, that the pipe is assembled
out of lots of small straight cylinders (actually the same concept as it
underlies the usage of triangle-meshes to create smooth shaped objects:
The more triangles, the smoother...)

The files it exports have a ton of triangles, though. STOMP 3D files tend to have a
lot less,
even for the same sized creation. Besides, STOMP 3D is a genuininely useful program.
Piper is as
well, but you can only make the pipes- you can't deform them in any way after that.
