Well, the webserver that was hosting Twysted.net has died. Poor thing.
My webserver has been hacked, crashed, and otherwise overworked - it's
served me well.
But now, it's time to retire the beast. It was a humble 486/66 , with 8 megs
ram, and a 340 meg HD (which I filled up MANY a time..)
I am retaining the URL twysted.net, but I am going to be relocating it to my
local server, on a slightly better connection - it was on a single ISDN
line, and will now be on a Cable connection.
Twysted.Net is going to become the URL for my web/graphic design company,
twysted methyd desygn.
I will be moving a number of sub-sites, such as macroscope, over to the
povray.org site. Others, such as patchstation, may simply vanish. All the
links and tutorials that I had have been integrated into the new povray.org
site.

Aww.. I remember the good old days, back when www.twysted.net was the first site
I'd visit every morning, and the last I'd look at each evening. There is just no
replacement.

No patchstation? Why not? It's a good resource, and while the message board is
largely obsolete thanks to povray.unofficial.patches, it weas nice to have a
list of existing resources.
Will the newly invented Twysted Mynd have need of a Torus Mutt as a mascot? :)

Any idea as to when we might expect these sub-sites to arise, and how
they'll be organized? Or is it all too soon to tell just yet?
Thanks for all of your great work,

*cry if the world is dying*
Please not the patchstation!
It was such a nice resource for new officicial-PoV unsupported features? Where
will I get an overview and the patched executables if your patchstation is
removed?

I just felt a tremmor in the Force... as if a million voices screamed out in
horror...

Good luck with it. I hope to be a client, if you're good enough. ;)

The 'Station can't die. Maybe now the Station can be distributed over the Net to
the authors' pages directly, only being linked to from povray.org

If you think there's a message board there, you haven't been there in months.
I removed it a long time ago when it died and refused to be resuscitated.
For those who are concerned that there is nowhere else to get the superpatch,
don't despair. I'll be uploading a new version to my personal website
sometime this weekend, if all goes well. I'll provide the URL when it's
there.

Well, I had been intending to kill twysted.net - but dammit, I liked running
it. Sure, I was busy a lot, and maintaining it single handedly was tough -
but it was fun. <sigh> This is what happens when you start thinking about
stuff, I guess.....
I'm possibly thinking of restoring twysted.net - but I'm also thinking of
expanding its scope, to include all the other non-commercial renderers, such
as radiance, BMRT, PolyRay, etc, etc.
In order for me to do this, however, I do need to know what kind of support
I'll be getting. Will it be worth my effort to start handling BMRT?
In any case, twysted.net will be starting over from scratch. Possibly, I'll
just put my webdesign company on there as a subdomain, or something.
As users of twysted.net , what would you like to see? I'm open to
suggestions, comments, offers of help, etc.
After all - feedback is the only way things change. If you don't like
something about the old site, speak up! If you have a radical new idea for a
site - let me know!
After all - twysted.net was averaging 2-3 gigs of outgoing traffic a month -
I know you guys are out there....

The start of the next paragraph sounds like the plug might remain in the
socket.

I never see much said of any of those anymore, but then I'm out of touch.
I haven't been to c.g.r.r. in ages.

Commentary on all the macros and includes and patches would be a good
thing so that there's some nice descriptions, but we're talking work, at
least I call that work.

Welcome back. I am glad you came back to your senses or perhaps
you have lost your sanity again instead ? Either way I for one
am pleased by this announcement. Over the next few days I will be
thinking about the issues you mentioned in the remainder of your
message and then offer whatever suggestions/opinions I can think
of concerning them.
BMRT ?
A couple of quick suggestion sould be: More resource related
materials like a textures archive, scene files collection, and
possibly a 3d model repository. I know you have been hosting
the Pov objects collection (that is probably where most of the
traffic wascoming from ) but it is restricted to single model
objects only or a file that creates a single object type object.
A links data base where visitors can add links to build on the
collection so you don't have to find them all yourself and a
reliable broken link reporting system that is easy for you to
delete inoperable links in a timely manner.
Possibly a new programs announcement area where program developers
with new/updated programs and utilities can post their announcements.
This would help those who suffer missing usenet group messages
either from having been away for a while or because their ISP's
dos not archive messages for very long or mismange them in a way
that they never appear when posted.
