there is so bad that all vehicles have to have air-con.

I would like to live in a place that doesn't get any hotter than 24 deg  
Celsius and doesn't go below 0 - though snow would be cool :)

Phone cable theft and power cable theft is common in South Africa. I  
suppose they don't use whatever the latest technology is in the rest of  
the world here. Maybe there's more copper in our cables than elsewhere.

That's what I would have thought but I was on the coast and it is always 
more temperate near the sea.

Yes, snow is cool. :-P
England is like that but you would have to put up with not seeing blue 
skys very often. I have heard quite a few Australians complaining about 
that, a lot.

Probably a lot more poverty then. That would make it more economical, 
compared to here.

I'm not sure I'm even capable of reaching that with my connection (which my ISP
laughably calls "high speed").  They advertize 12 megabytes on TV.  Major copy
error there: what they really meant is 12 megaBITS.  But I never get more than
1.5 Mb, and that's on a good hour of a good day.  Sometimes I get half the speed
of dial-up!  There are times (as often as once or twice a day) when I wish I
lived in South Korea.

What country are you in?
I would prefer Peterborough over SOuth Korea  - 1Gbps!
I have a 4Mbps connection. there are 8 devices connected via wi-fi plus  
the PC direct connection = 9 devices. And my sons are into on-line gaming  
and everybody except me watches You-Tube a lot.
Speedtest.net usually tests over 3Mbps {locally}, and downloads have never  
been over 500Kbps(international). I have had pings as low as 9 but usually  
it\s around 300 to bing.com.

Now my internet connection seems to be disappearing again... :(

I am in the U.S. Virgin Islands, an unincorporated territory of the USA. 
  I have never used the Internet outside the USA, but in the states, 
I've used it in hotels, government facilities, and private homes, and 
the Internet service in the Virgin Islands is /by far/ the worst I have 
ever seen.

On a national level, I've heard that South Korea has the fastest 
Internet in the world.  On the other hand, if commentary on recent news 
is accurate, my little Virgin Islands has about 100 times the Internet 
capacity of the entire nation of North Korea. (Day/night!)

It does not surprise me. It has become a bit of a classic. Even used as
