The windows 3.1g is available from www.povray.org. There is no upgrade file
this time since the help file (which makes up the bulk of the distribution) has
changed.

Thank you Chris !!!

One question - Why worry about the help file ? No one reads it anyway :)

That is so true, at least for this new group of kids that seems to be coming in... I
remember back in my day, man, we used to read the help file every time we wanted to
do something in pov. If you didn't know how to do it, you'd look it up... Then we
discovered 'newsgroups', and the good ol' days were no more...

Well, I'm off to my 'g'... Thanks again POV-Team.

I read them all the time... :)

It would be nice to know what changes has be made to the help while to
see if it's worth of downloading (I have to carry everything to my home
computer with floppys...).

Another question: Will the new version install over the old one without
problems or will I need to make something else before installing?

I can see the time where some people will buy something called "eggs" from the net and
then will turn to newsgroup asking how to cook them, because, ya know, it looked nice
and so i just downloaded it and i can't figure out what this "shell" thing is and do i
need to remove it before eating the egg and...

Thanks for the "g", Pov-team.

You missed these windows-specific changes, from changes.txt:

                         Changes as of version 3.1g
                         --------------------------

o Fixed resource leakage when using the render window select function.
  o A few other minor changes/bugfixes.

One of those "minor changes/bugfixes" is the PPS counter with +am2.

Hi, Warp. Dummy me *accidentally* deleted the Install.log file that
POV-Ray for Windows uses to perform an uninstall. Consequently, I had to
install over my v3.1e and it simply moved any files it replaced to the
user-specified Backup directory.

Chris usually advises people to perform an uninstall as this method may
clean up the Registry better than simply installing on top of an older
version (I haven't verified this). To be safe, just be sure to save anything
you want to keep to another location, such as scene and .ini files, and
customized Insert Menu items.

To be "safe" I go into the directory I am installing into and change
each of the major directory names to something different than what
the install program uses. This way I don't have to move a bunch of files
around and if any problems occur and I need to restore customized files
they are all sitting there untouched. Oh clever me who was once not so
clever and regretted it greatly !
