I am pleased to announce that orders are now being taken for the Year Four
IRTC CDROM, via our website at http://www.aussie.org/products/. The CD itself
is currently with the manufacturer and is expected to become available for
shipping on December 7, 2001.

As with previous years, the Y4 CD is a high-quality professionally-replicated
CD with a five-color silk-screen process on the disk itself and four-colour
offset printing for the booklet and tray insert. It contains all stills and
animation entries into Year Four of the IRTC (May/June 1999-March/April 2000),
and is considerably different in layout to the IRTC site itself. Those of you
who have purchased the Year Three IRTC CDROM will be familiar with the layout;
those who have not seen the Y3 CD may like to check out the online version at
http://www.povray.org/preview/irtc-cd3/ for a look. The Y4 CD is very similar
to this (with a few minor enhancements, such as a global stills filename index).

Orders placed now will be first in line for shipping when the CD is released
(which is important given the proximity of Christmas to the release date, if
you want to have a chance of receiving it before the holidays). If you elect
to pay by credit card, your card will not be charged until the CD is released.

Please remember that the very existance of this news server - and the community
that it hosts - along with the www.povray.org and www.irtc.org web sites depend
on sales of these CD's to keep them going. Please consider purchasing a CD if
you can afford it!

Thank you so much for taking the time to work on the fourth
IRTC CD-ROM while POV-Ray 3.5 beta was (is) still going on!

I have immediately placed an order for the CD, like I did
for the three previous ones. I have had no problem so far,
and see no reason why it should change. Besides, the fact
that this is a preorder means that I will probably forget
about it and have a nice surprise around mid-December!

Your online store is a really nice place, by the way. Clean,
efficient, informative and, most of all, honest - just like
a small shop around the corner, as opposed to the big,
anonymous malls that we are more used to see both in real
life and on the Internet.

I especially liked your description of the process you use
to handle credit card numbers. I like your "only-stored-in-
encrypted-form" policy, and all the other little details:
pointers to up-to-date exchange rates charts, pointer to
Thawte page certifying your site, etc.

I hope the income generated by the sales of this CD will
allow povray.org and irtc.org to keep on living, and maybe
growing. I'm looking forward for IRTC CD#5 and also for
the 10best CD.

Have a nice day.

My credit card company prohibites sending credit card information through
the internet, so I suppose that it's ok to send the info by fax, or is there
something special to take into account?
By the way, could it be possible to add a form to that website which could
be printed, filled and then faxed?

I'm surprised. Shouldn't they put some pressure on
Microsoft and co so that the Internet becomes more
secure instead? :-(

Sounds more like laziness on the part of the CC company. If they take 5
minutes to write this rule into their contracts, they save hundreds of
hours of headaches when inevitably somone gets burned by an internet
scam, when they would be liable to pay compensation. They make money
with less trouble, and *most* of their customers are happy.

Their downfall will come if they continue this policy while other
competitors put their efforts into making provisions for this kind of
thing, while they can't deal with it.

Much like my old bike insurance company [note to UK cycle owners: NEVER
use Cycleguard], who introduced an "approved lock list" without notice 2
weeks after I'd paid for a year's insurance with them, with a lock that
was not on their list (but was far superior to many they listed). Then
they didn't pay a claim for 6 months, and then thought they could have
my custom back. They had since introduced lots and lots of exclusions
to their cover, such as not leaving a bike outside for more than a few
hours. I mean, excuse me, but what the hell is the point of specially
insuring your bike if it is hardly covered outside your house? In the
space of a few months, they had virtually refused to cover anyone who
didn't keep their bike chained up inside their house at all times. I
wouldn't be surprised if they refused cover to anyone planning to ride
it on a public highway...

Yes, I know, I should have probably enclosed that lot in <rant> </rant>
tags...

No, just send it via fax, and I'll process an order that way. The fax number
should be on the site.

This is a good idea. I'll make up a PDF for the purpose.

I am not. It makes lots of sense. To me at least.

Microsoft? They don't own the internet.

Heck, MS doesn't even own a significant portion of the
security interests on the internet; that's reserved for
the adult sites which need high level security just to
maintain some kind of reputation to encourage business.

I've done this. See http://www.aussie.org/products/

Do you think that the (dark) gray background in the table is a good idea?
I don't know exactly how a fax works, but if it works anything like a
photocopier machine, a writing on such a dark gray background may be quite
difficult to read.
