Well! Since I never use bmp I might never have known that!

Once again we see the value that having a Ken_AI.hlp file in the POVray
distribution would have.

Hi, Scott. Could you please post using plain text, only? Some people use
newsreaders that do not display HTML while others, like me, have to fire up
a browser to be able to see what was written. Thanks much.

If you get desparate send me the image and I will convert it to tga for
you or at least see if I can figure out what the problem is with the bmp
format you are using.

I am somewhat notorious around here for my quick responses. Some say
that I am an artifical intellegence that haunts these groups and I have
done little to dispell those rumors :)

Alen,

I checked my preferences and selected plain text. Hope it comes through
properly. I have never used news groups before and had no idea this was
a consideration.

I rarely even touched upon the 'image_map {sys' before, although I seem to
recall trying to use a bitmap renamed to the *.sys extension and got various
results. I'm sure however that I had tried the various combinations, like
sys type with bmp file and bmp type with sys file. Nothing was ever
consistently right so I gave it up within a few days of trial and error.

Scott, thanks for switching to text mode. Welcome to news.povray.org, by
the way.

When you get a chance you might peruse the articles posted at the
povray.announce.frequently-asked-questions group, as many of these topics
come up quite often as fr... well, you know <grin>. Also of interest there
is Ken Tyler's Links Collection, which Ken updates quite frequently. You can
also find his links on the web at http://www.povray.org/links/.

Thank you Alan. Being as new to this as I am I am now having to find
all the areas for support. Thanks for your direction.

Two questions:
1) Is the bitmap uncompressed, or RLE compressed?

2) Are you using POV-Ray for Windows, or another version?

Mark
