I'm full of admiration for people like you (and Tim Mc Murdo as well) who
can stay focused on a long planned project as yours.
I become fed up with an image after less than 2 months though I come back
working on old scenes time to time.

Keep up the excellent work.

BTW I was deeply touched by your "Innocent shadow"

What can I say that has not been already said?
I am very impressed by your project. What I particularly like are the
textures which give an almost fresco-like appearance to the scene (at least
in the close-up).

If it is intended to look like an old painting the orthographic version is
surely the best one. As I said I like this little unreal look and this is
what helps to make the specific charm. Many people will say this must be an
old painting - no way a computer-made picture :-)
Anyway setting the camera will be probably a nice play comparing to your
effort to model the whole scene. I hope you will render many different
views (both looking realistic and painting like) of your beautiful scene.

Yes, seems a bit inappropriate for that beautiful scene.

That looks very nice and natural.

This one is really strange... I prefer "2".

Indeed, I'm really waiting to see this image finished... it's really
promising, and you are almost there.

Check the scale of the roof tiles, they look a bit larger than the ones I
have handled.
Although I have seen more than one size used here, but the smaller is far
more common.

Wonderful work. How long have you been working on this now?

Of course just because I'm taking forever doesn't make it good;
some of your work are my favorite POV-Ray images of all time.
My favorites:
http://marc.jacquier.free.fr/Atoll.htm (I can't believe it didn't win!)
http://marc.jacquier.free.fr/cuisine.htm

One thing that makes my project manageable is I can divide it
into smaller parts easily. But that also gives me an opportunity
for procrastination. I spent almost a year worrying about how
to draw a gondola when I should've just dived in!

Someone else asked how long I've been working on this, I'm
afraid it's getting close to three years now (taking Spring and
Summer off for bike racing). What surprises me is it hasn't
changed much from my original sketch. Maybe that's vision,
maybe just stubbornness :-).

> BTW I was deeply touched by your "Innocent shadow"

Innocent Shadow does evoke a strong reaction and I was very
happy about that. I made sure I could re-use the elements for
Venice, though one Japanese writer mentioned it looks more
European than Japanese, which is true.

Thanks, everyone, for the encouragement!

Thanks for the tip, I'll try smaller tiles for this building.

Email me if you require exact dimensions. I have plenty of them here to
put the tape measure against.
