Hi!

I was actually quite pleased with the lightning on this. Kind of ambient
lightning, but it's not, if you see what I mean. I'm not quite sure what to
do next, however... I've tried some clouds, but I can't seem to get it
right. Anyone willing to explain those clouds we've seen so much of lately,
perhaps?

Oh, heck. You probably think this image is lousy, but the concept is
beautiful. In my opinion, of course...

Simen.

I'd kind of like to know myself :-) I agree I like the lighting.

The ball is great, the background could use some, err, work.

I might have eaten some berries like that before :-)
Looks to be reflection causing the ambience.
I wish I could explain "clouds" in POV, that would mean I could make them.
There's many ways to go about that any particular way in mind?
There's the layered texture method, the layered object method, media or fog methods.

Well I like it. What's your rule for placing the grapelets?

Well, that's the fun part! I needed the vertices of some regular polyhedra,
and firing up my private, pirated version of LightWave, I created a
tesselated sphere of level 1, killing the polygons, and exporting the
verices to VRML. Then, it was really no problem converting that data to an
array in PovRay.

Nope. I still think it's pretty neat, even though many others do the same, I
believe. I simply placed a very dim light source at for every sphere, just
farther away from origo.

Er, I don't see any lightning. Or do you mean lighting?

Maybe some lightning? :-)

Which kind of clouds are you looking for? Whispy, cirrus clouds? Dark
stormclouds? Sparse, fluffy clouds?

Actually, I think it looks quite interesting. Maybe make a whole bunch
of these hanging from a tree...

Yes... (my english is a bit rstttyy sometimes...,)

All of them!! But in this particular case, I'd go for the stratos kind; the
ones resembling fishbones ... I think one might call them "sparse, fluffy".
Can you help? I got a message from mr. Hazelgrove, and I'm eager to try it
out, too.

Thanks! I was actually inspired by a Tangerine Dream cover, although I've
never heard the music... The thought was to make this extremely perfect
(speaking textureing) _and- realistic, and adding some sunny sky and grass
below. I am still working on the grass, creating a (hpoefully not so slow)
macro using bezier patches. Any hints welcome!

Simen.

Well, my english is also a bit rstttyy sometimes...and it is the only
language I know!
I still think it might be interesting with lightning arcing from the
spheres to a tree branch, or something like that... :-)

Hmm, I think I would play around with using agate or unevenly scaled
wrinkles patterns as either a multi-layered texture or as a media
density...

Maybe make a fractal tree with perfectly straight branches and
non-random angles, and have these "fruit" hanging from it...you could
use blobs to give the tree an organic look.
