Here's an in-progress render of a scene I'm working on. There's still
a lot to be done but I felt like sharing it anyway. Please let me know
what you think.

The elephant was modelled in the Rhino eval. The flame is a highly
modified Howard Day one. The walls have a weird normal and that's
about all there's to this image.

Right now the walls are a rounded box with a normal. I'd greatly
appreciate it if someone could help me make an isosurface version of
that.

Render time was 3 hr 5 min in the background on a K6III/400. Memory
consumed was 23 MB (yes it's a big mesh :) ). Radiosity was used but
only because I forgot to turn it off.

Well, these are the best flames I've seen in a long time. I d/l'ed Day's
flames too, but haven't done anything interesting with them.

Wow. Awesome.

I don't think you needed Rhino to model such a
*lame* glass animal, however.

Nonetheless, berry, berry cool.

That sharp cut between the floor and wall needs a molding.

The glass material hides some of the cool twists & bends that I would
have never been able to make with POV code. If you want I'll post a
small china version and you'll see why I needed Rhino.

Thanks once again.

It is actually a wooden table or something, it does not touch the
wals. Using the flame as the only source of illumination killed the
shadows to the left, though.

I was in a hurry so I didn't model one of my own, just shamessly
copied Howard's.

It could be a MegaPOV thing but I couldn't make the container cylinder
disappear so I removed all absorption.

The concept is great. The eyes and tusks need thinking about as do the walls and
floor.
Make the ears much bigger (and probably the tusks as well.)
Look forward to seeing developments.

Can you be a bit more specific about the eyes and tusks? The model is
the most accurate representation of a real glass elephant I have,
though I must admit texturing is just a hack at reality.

The walls suck, I know. I have given up using an isosurface and am
stuck with normals unless some good soul can help me with the iso
stuff. The floor... well, it was supposed to look like a wooded table
:) but judging by everyone's comments I have to remake it.

Thanks for your feedback.

If you want the model to represent the reality of your glass elelphant, then of course
my
observations are invalid.

Not knowing, however, that you were modelling from 'life' I felt that the eyes would
be
better a different colour, with the the tusks longer and a different colour (ivory?)
BTW is the fiery exhalation also from life? :-)

I thought your idea and modelling of a glass elephant was very appealing. The fire
squirting out of the trunk gives it a surreal appeal and converts it into some sort of
mythical beast, that might be even better with exaggerated appendages.

Hmm ... although coming from a different perspective, Ganesh, the hindu god which is
half
man, half elephant might be interesting to model :-)
