It was what I thought it to be, but wanted confirmation.

All POV-Ray users have an automatic /abonnement/ ;-)

As I always keep examples of work in progress, this is the next stage.
Textures are not in final stage.

This is looking really nice so far Thomas. The foreground bricks are much better
with the larger scale, and I see you've given the sailor a tan (although I
personally like his colourful trousers more than these new ones). The statue on
the far side of the harbour is a nice touch, as are the new buildings (to hide
some of the closer stand-in houses?).

Cheers

Thanks Robert.

I shall probably work a bit more on the ground pattern.

The trousers pattern is still in flux and can change unpredictably ;-)

The statue of Athena I came across when I browsed through my objects
(Taschen) collection. It seemed the right guardian for the harbour.

The buildings were planned all along. They are inspired by the Stoa of
most Greek polis. They are a combination of warehouses, markets, and
meeting places.

Indeed, although I think the scale is a bit exaggerated. Of course,
it might be a coloss of rhodos thing but you probably wouldn't tuck
that into a harbour corner. Also, it looks a bitmetallic to me, maybe
a stone statue would fit in better.

<grin> All kind of things that will be tackled in due course.

The scale on the floor is at a correct scale now, I think... just
needs to fit the lighting on the scene: perhaps rotating 180*y will do it.

I like better the skin work on the figure on this one. The cloth is
perhaps less colorful, but more suited for the occasion, I guess.

It /is/ already rotated 180*y, but I think I see what you mean. The
image should possibly be mirrored too. I shall investigate. Thanks for
this keen observation :-)

In fact this figure is low res (Don; Poser 5) which I generally use for
scale purposes and in background positions. It does a fairly good job in
this image although normally I use the later Poser 6 to 8 or Apollo
Maximus figures in the foreground.

Like many, I like to use colourful cloth and I force myself to also use
less pretty ones. Here, this kind of sacking is better adapted to the
occasion indeed.

The colossus of Rhodos was predominantly in my mind of course. In Greek
temples, statues were often oversized, sometimes almost touching the
ceiling. Must have been an awesome sight, as was intended I suppose. So,
this statue which is about 8 times human scale should be an eye-catcher
when sailing into the harbour.

I note the very natural attitude of the character.
To criticize Maybe too specular on the skin.
