I was practicing with Chief Architect, and did this hotel corridor... it was
so boring that I decided to have some fun adding some story to it.

That looks really good! Much more interesting too. Something about the focal
blur throws of my sense of scale just a bit. Maybe a tad too much on the tape?
The only other things I would recommend would be to get rid of the sharp
shadows on the lights, and, at least from my experience, pools of blood on
carpet tend to be a little darker when dried--almost a reddish-brown color.
Oops. I think I've said too much.

Nice macaber one ;)

The bloodstain should be a good deal darker I think. After all, it should be all
coagulated by now.

It looks great!

The focal blur seems perfect to me - just enough on the hall to give a slight
sense of depth, but enough on the tape to draw the viewer to look past to the
crime scene itself.

The lighting is good, but maybe there's something more that can be drawn out of
the scene and/or POV? There's something slightly CG about them that I can't
quite put my finger on...

Did anyone ever get IES files into POV somehow? They often give the appearance
of higher realism due to the complexity of the light emitted...

And perhaps try some specular on the leaves of the pot plants - they are quite
shiny at the right angle in RL.

Another fantastic render - thank-you very much for sharing with us!

Cheers,
Edouard.

Very nice. But:

1. Blood is way too bright, even for a fresh stain (which this cannot be)
2. Running pose seems unnatural for the dead body.
3. Exit signs are usually red around here, I cannot remember seeing a green
one (but it might be a local thing)
4. Police tape is at a very odd place (useless and/or trapping patrons),
unless there is also an exit/entrance behind the camera. But in that case,
I'd expect another tape at the far end too, especially since there seems to
be a perpendicular corridor in front of the exit.

I agree with you about the blood. It's MUCH to red. Even fresh blood from an
artery is not THAT red.

The shadows from the lamps looks OK to me.I've often seen shadows as sharp as those.
No problem with the blur on the police tape.

You know you've been raytracing too long when whenever you write include, even
in essays, etc, you always add a "#".

Fair enough. Maybe the IES comment was on the right track. The color is
perfect, but maybe they seem too perfect and uniform. Or maybe it's the
shadows across the center of the door. Something about Feng Shui, but I guess
I'm obviously not good at pinpointing things like this.

Another look confirms this.

These are quibbles... ;-)
I think that the scene is a WIP, and that the intentions are not to make it
completely photorealistic.
Bella imagen!

Excellent!!

Not much to add to comments given, except that I suspect I know *who did
it*.... The resident of Room nr. 13 of course ;-)

Just as an aside about the Exit sign, green is correct as far as I know
(Europe?). I don't remember seeing red ones... Must be a
regional/continental thing I guess.
