Here's an updated model of my alien creature. The only new
addition is the mouth, which is rather hard to model. Well,
it's easy to just hand-code one up for this image, but I'm
working on a set of macros that eventually need to fully
parametrize all possible mouth shapes that I might want,
and that is rather difficult. Nevertheless, I think the
creature is a tad more expressive than just having an eye,
don't you think? :-)

Definitely.

Just a shameless plug here - I once made some macros for creating a
parameterized mouth shape, and I even created support for relatively easy
and powerful lip synch capabilities as well as combining lip synch with
emotions by adding, blending and interpolating mouth poses. The system can
be downloaded from here, and there's also a demo-animation:

Cool!! I've downloaded it and glanced at the code a bit. Complicated
stuff! I don't think my POV skills are up to snuff yet, but maybe
one of these days I'll learn to do more with SDL and borrow some
of your ideas. Very neat system you have there.

Well anyways, here's another shot of my alien creature, this time
rather distressed.

Nice. It would be nice if you could do it with blobs instrad of CSG.

Nice work, makes you feel sorry for him!

Yes... but I did really like the way you'd got so much expression out of
just one eye. It would almost be nice to have a character just with an
eye (or two) just because you can. Why not give your alien a pet
gastropod of some sort?

Also now you have an eye and a mouth on the same creature the
expressions have to match.

He's *very* cute anyway.

Hey, good idea! I could make a one-eye creature consisting solely
of one eye and 3 leg-tentacles... crawling around scowling at you,
for example. :-)

Yeah, that's true. Although, it does allow such subtle expressions
as when he's clearly not happy with you, but is just faking a smile
(staring eyes vs. smiling mouth).

Thanks! I designed him to be very cute... it's nice to know that
I'm at least somewhat successful in that respect. :-)
