Very nice.

I'll echo a couple of others. Scrap the underwater and just focus on above.
At the moment it's a split image with two disconnected points of focus.

Some ice on the water, steam where the lava hits the ocean, glow around the
top and it'll look very nice.

The bit underwater is just a placeholder! if you compare it to the first WIP
you'll see it hasn't changed, honestly it's just a bunch of spheres I threw
down there to remind me to come back later and put something in. I should
probably have mentioned that!

The other suggestions are good though, I'm going to try to do all of them.

I think I explained all this in an earlier post, though I should have said
when I posted this picture, allow me to reiterate:

1/ The mountains and undersea areas are just placeholders (cones and
spheres) until I get round to working on them, frankly I'm amazed people
keep commenting on them! To me they look so obviously unfinished.

2/ That isn't a drop of lava underwater, it's one of those underwater lava
vents where lava's escaping through a small crack underwater and solidifying
on the outside almost immediately, but the pressure of the lava keeps
cracking the solid surface so more of it can break through. This is why it's
so far from the volcano, it hasn't fallen there it's come up from
underground.

I'm going to keep disagreeing with people about the underwater area until I
get round to working on it. Personally I think it's the most important part
of the whole image because it shows the cold beating the lava, which
balances out what's happening above.

I guess I should work on that next so people can see what it's supposed to
look like and see if they still disagree with me :)

Tek,
Expect to see a lot of boiling at the undersea vent.
For form google 'black smoker' - those chimneys are heaps of fun... and a
modelling challenge.

I think Tek intents that kind of cushion lava
http://satftp.soest.hawaii.edu/space/hawaii/vfts/pele/page.s2.html

As you can see water pressure and temperature conditions prevents water to
boil further than 1 inch away the forming crust.
Steam condensates and bubbles shrink as soon as formed.

It's looking real good...

Quick thought: The lava will cool as goes downhill. That should make it
change from yellow to red and from bright to dim as it gets farther away
from the heat source.

I thought it's not even near of finishing, but I guessed that you'd want
visions of the image (I would've). My apologies, if I was so wrong.

Ah. For my eye, it looked like a stone for my eye. But after all, I
didn't even realize that those cracks exist (thou it's logical, while
thinking it now).

Nice! Now, even I can see (and understand) what's the underwater part
about :).

Pillow should be better than cushion.
