very good !

about the blue:
If it's co used by the blue sky, then all other objects should be at least
as blue as the snow. maybe just make the snow white and add a bit of blue
the lighting ?
or just a blue sky and radiosity..

Looks like there was some snow, then the kids came out and played, and
then another fresh inch of really fluffy stuff fell on it. Right now
it's late in the afternoon and there is not a cloud in the sky. It's
also well below the freezing point.

On the drawback side, I do detect some faceting along the edges of some
of the shadows.

Regards,

back)

Ah, well, my left eye is slightly out of focus, so maybe that had
something to do with it. That said, though, even at the middle of
the dog, the reason that the fur looks a little odd is because of a shadow
coming from an object that's out of frame. That's hyper-realism, to
place something out of frame so it casts a shadow like that while being
trace. I still say "well done, and can we see the souce?". <g>

That's great! It gets the fresh-snow sparkle down wonderfully.
Well done, LightBeam!

Thank you all ;-)
I promise that I will release the snow code soon when my scene will be
finished.

It looks absolutely real to me...the "too blue" comments are directed at the
fact that you almost never see a clear, azure, summery sky over
fresh-fallen snow, and hence by making your sky-sphere overcast you'll have
less blue for the snow to reflect.

Some of these people don't know what snow looks like, I think.. the
lighting is fine (maybe a little purplish but I won't complain). The
little sparkles look great.

Only complaint I'd make is the shape of the snow. It LOOKS fresh, but
fresh snow is usually smoother than this, unless the surface underneath
is seriously torn up.

Granted, someone suggested that kids had played in it and then a fresh
layer covered their tracks, and that's a plausible explanation.

The snow could be covering many kinds of uneven surface especially grass
or clumped grass. This snow has been exposed to a strong sun during the
afternoon such that the uppermost of the layer has melted slightly
leaving a crystaline crust. That would also account for the slightly
sunk in look that the smaller scale lacework of bumps gives to it.

I've been making some snow too, but my snow is just so-so... :-P

Had to go back and tweak mine, to try and make it look as good as yours.
Those sparkles are NICE!

Ken
