Thanks, that was the CSG bevelling exercize from hell.

I'm not sure what to do about that, the lantern is ambient 0 diffuse 1.
In fact I'm not even sure what you men by "washed out".
Any suggestions?

Another thing I noticed almost as soon as I posted is that
the AA settings are way too low for the water (just +A0.3),
I'm experimenting with +A0.1 +AM2 +R4 etc.

Low contrast. This picture http://tinyurl.com/3gs4e is similar to yours,
but the darker parts are darker and the lighter parts lighter.

| Any suggestions?

Sorry, not an area of knowledge for me.

Absolutely gorgeous. I agree with everything said about the smoothness
of the CSG. Also, the front leaves. They are your own macro? I love
their look. It's perfect for this image.

Thanks.

I'm happy enough with the CSG for the lantern,
(though I might try taking out some random chunks
to simulate wear and tear), but everything else
is still a WIP, though I'm not sure where to go
from here yet.

For the leaves I used the gimp to make 3 variant toned
png transparencies of a photo of a leaf and an edge-detect
on the same photo to create a bump-map. Then I used rotated
copies of those to texture a simple mesh2.

I've attached jpg thumbnails to illustrate.

Your shadows are too soft.. you need a lower error_bound. Use a
higher-quality radiosity setting, or lower it manually (less than .3
should work well).

The photo doesn't quite blend with the render, but I'm not sure what
would fix that short of modeling the background.

Nice picture, though, all the same. :o

Thanks, I'm re-reading the radiosity tutorial from the manual
and looking through rad_def.inc, probably Radiosity_OutdoorHQ
will fit the bill, but I have a high ambient white sphere just
out of shot to the left and may need to adjust for that.

I have a separate photo just behind the camera to provide an
environment map, I've switched to use the same image as the
backdrop, that may help the blending.

I originally intended to model the whole scene, I still may
do that if this doesn't work out, but it's a lot of work for
something that's not really directly visible.

I think is it honoring it, like a mural does or a statue. Really nice
work!!!
