Hi everybody
Please provide me with valuable critique regarding the degree of reality and
any other aspect you migth want to consider. Also does anybody have better
suggestions as how to generate realistic ground scene and clouds. For my
scene,I used a satellite image from NASA, which I projected on a plane. I
used bozo texture in a transparent plane on the top of the first plane in
order to generate clouds. Does anyone have better ideas. Also, how to create
the sensation of fog on the horizon.

Thanks in advance....

Very nice! Just a little feedback:

* I can see where the texture on the ground starts over again. It's that
sharp-edge.
* You will get a higher degree of realism if you add this: sky_sphere {
pigment { wrinkles } } You'll see. :-)

The Airplane wings looks distorted.

When b747 climbs after take off, the wings bend upwards due to the weight of
the plane, also called wing flex. I have tried to simulate this effect. This
is probably the reason for the distortion.

it maybe a matter of perspective, but the startboard wing
looks like you could scale its length down by a third

distance between the engines on each side would then look
about right as well

something about the trailing edge flaps/slats doesn't look
right either, is it in a banking climb ?

cabin lights maybe?

Nice model!

I think the lighting is not perfect, yet: Ground is dark light in the
night, but your plane is way too bright IMHO.

Keep up the good work!

I'm sure the wings aren't different lengths by a factor of three. An error
like that does not escape detection. The wings are bent upwards
considerably, which people are not used to seeing and this is the perfect
perspective to distort that. Its also a matter of the camera angle. The
wide angle is stretching the starboard wing out, the nose, and tail as well.
Lowering the angle and putting the camera at maybe a quarter angle to the
aircraft would alleviate some of these issues.

It looks to me as though the camera is very far away and using a very narrow
FOV. Perhaps moving it closer to the plane and raising its 'angle' (or
lowering 'direction') could also prevent some of the line-of sight flattened
appearance, or binocular effect, as I call it.

i meant to originally phrase it as "scale by a factor of two thirds",
but obviously had brain-finger communication problem

I tried to post to the group, but accidentally it went to bob hughes email
address. I am sorry for that. I am reposting it. What I wanted to say is:
The distortion of the wings is probably due to the telephoto effect in
which, objects away from the camera appear larger than the objects close by.
Please consider the follwing parameters of the image, plane length: 100
units, camera distance: 750 units, camera angle of view: 10.5 deg.

Here is another image with the lights on.
Supriyo

ps. Would like to thank Skip for telling me about radiosity.
