Love the trees, sun is good too, but the water is somewhat fake - it
just doesn't seem like the right type of waves (ripples) to me. The
clouds are a bit off, too, I think.

It's just that the trees put everything else to shame :)

In my most humble opinion, the problem with the sky is the dull reddish
color in the clouds. When there's red in a sunset, it's a brighter color
red, especially when the sun is still so high above the horizon.

Also, the water seems awfully choppy for such a wide, meandering river, with
no other hint of wind. (Actually, the presence of the haze would indicate
little or no wind at all...)

With that said, I would like to mention that this is a stunning work! This
must be a magical forest...

Dave Blandston

Once again, great work Christoph!
A very beautiful and relaxing image.
To give some constructive criticsm, I must agree with
other comments about the clouds and horizon colours.
If it's evening time there must be more red
(I think golden fits better for the clouds).
That will make these colors reflect in the water, what
will be more realistic.
Also the water should be more quiet I think.
Anyway, a beautiful image.

P.S.: You didn't send Elevado to the IRTC... bad boy... ;-)

How lovely... Hardly looks like it came out of a computer! (Although it
perhaps looks more like a painting than a photograph - can't ask me why!)

Keep it up!
Andrew.

Here is just a quick try to implement some of the comments (trees disabled).
Bumpiness of the watersurface is much lower and a tint of red is added to
the horizon. Much better in my opinion, especially the water. Thanks for the
hints!
Christoph

I liked it much better with those trees. The water could use variation over
the surface area, smoother places and rougher places, from wind differences.
The sky is great.

The trees will be back in the final render, they were just disabled to speed
up testing of water and sky.

Much better now (and yes, I know you'll put the trees back in :) ).
The water still looks a little CG. Are you using fresnel reflection?
Attenuation?
