Thanks to ABX for helping me with the code to create 'Rusty's' hose. (I hope to
consolidate
our efforts into an include file sometime in the near future

The Rusty (White) image is almost exactly the same (a slightly different random seed
was used
in the wall construction), but the materials have all been replaced with a white
reflective
material (the normal remains unchanged). This version brought my PC to it's knees,
taking over
1 day of constant hard disk thrashing.

Comments, criticism? All welcome and encouraged.

All the best,

Andy Cocker

That looks great - did you use any image maps, or are all the textures
procedural?

Thanks David

I wish I was that good. No, this was actually an excercise in using image_maps.. I'd
never
really used them before. I know among purists that that's thought of as almost
cheating, but
to be honest, it's all about creating a good picture at the end of the day, and as
long as it
looks good then I think that's all that matters. It's all illusion anyway, isn't it?

Thanks for your comments,

Andy Cocker

Well , I'm no great POV coder, but I'll try and put it all together with some docs
soon. I
think I'll provide it with one 'link' design, allowing the user to specify their own.

All the best,

There is an issue I have of 3D magazine that has a statement made by one of
the premier developers in the motion picture industry who said that you use
enough of reality to fool the veiwer into thinking that they are actually
seeing something that is real (paraphrased of course since I don't have the
actual quote handy).

So the illusion we create is as real as we can fool people into thinking it
is. Your attempt gets a "A+" for reality...you will have to do some
"'splaining" as to why Rusty has his thing in that corner like that though.

You meant at the end of the year didn't you? I work on my projects for much
more than a day! I agree that "time" is part of the art, though.
