Hi,

I agree -- the barrel is flat. Probably it's due to its
'cone+cylinder+cone'-construction. You should use a lathe-
or SOR-object to give it a rounded outline. This also would
make the borders between the planks round, whitch should
increase the 3d-perception. To make these borders (yes!, I
can see them, but barely) more clearly visible, I suggest to
make the planks more different by varying their texture
(color, turbulence, scale).
The upper hoop looks rectangular, because the camera sits in
its plane. This contributes to the flatness.
The hoops should be slightly conical (tangent to the curved
outline) and have some thickness.
I also do not understand the dark shadows(?) below the hoops.
No details are visible in the lower right part of the barrel.
Of course it must be rather dark, but is it neccesary to make
it SO dark?
The window seems a little simplistic, compared to the
elaborate other objects in your scene: only a uniform yellow
and some dark lines. Or will higher resolution bring out more
detail?
The weights look like beeing painted with a transparent green;
I would expect more yellow, perhaps a little brown.

Everything else: GREAT! Mmmmmh, these apples -- have you ever
thought of slicing up or biting them? Let us see that in your
next masterpiece!

Oh, you really think you can *ever* get a _final_ picture?!

Awaiting the 'final' version (and then the second 'final'
version, and then ...)

Well, seems we all agree the barrel looks flat... :) And the colour
leaching under the hoops looks like a shadow... yes, I now notice it! Also
the distinction between the different boards is not much visible, I agree.
So, I will focus on the barrel to finish at last that scene... (well, I
will add the basket handless too!).

  Thanks to everyone!

Nope, it's a scaled spherical mesh (well, actually only a quarter).

I've used this technique, but perhaps with not enough variation...

I think this is perhaps the main reason for the barrel to look flat. I
will try a different camera...

No, it's a side effect of the "leaching" layer, done with gradient. I
will replace it with a function based on y.

Yes, wait for final render: it's actually an very nice isosurface.

Yes, perhaps I've reduced the reflection too much, then it shows
excesively the standard Bronze pigment from colors.inc.

:) They consist only on the skin! But as they are blobs, perhaps I can do
someday the interior and make such "slice scene"... nice idea.

> Oh, you really think you can *ever* get a _final_ picture?!

No, but I will be too bored with it in some days... ;)

Oh, and thanks for the elaborated comments!

How? And expend precious time needed to create new scenes? Never!!! ;)

For the leaching, you could try a trick I've used before. Use a y gradient
like you are but turbulate it and scale it in the y direction. That way you
get a bit of variation in the amount of leaching and get a bit more
streaking effect.

Yeah, but then it shows also on top of the hoops... I must use perhaps a
function of y instead gradient, with a layer for each hoop instead trying
the repetitions to match the distance between hoops.

You should be able to work out a pattern to make this work without showing
on the top of the hoops.
Try using a repeat warp perhaps.

This is one of the most excellent pictures in terms of "how realistic" it
looks.
Someone may see it and ask you for how much some of these apples cost.

PS: I could only catch up by taking my camera and going downstairs on the
market where the real apples are .. hehehe

Hi Jaime, nice to see you (I've been unplugged the last 2 weeks of holidays)
I see you've been busy all this time.
I agree with the others about the barrel. It really seems as a
cone-cylinder-cone,
and the dirt looks more like shadows.
Talking 'bout lightning, with the new one the apples on the desk look
better,
and also the wheights.
I think the table looks better in the old one (specially the right down
corner
where you can see the barrel).
The general color given by the lights is what I find cold. OK, I suppose
it's due
to the blue wall (much better the new one) and the green-bronze wheights (I
think in RL are more golden than green), but I find it too blue. Maybe that
is
what you are looking for or maybe it's my monitor.
The scale is simply perfect. The modelling and texturing is a masterpiece.
Put the basket handless and work in the barrel and then send the image
to a professional's competition and WIN.
Once I made a barrel. The texture is not a good work though the modelling
seems right. You can get it at my site for ideas or inspiration.

PS: I saw you finally enter the IRTC, great radiosity work.

Bye. All the best.
