I hope someone can help me with a few problems I'm having with my scene
containing some lasers.

1. A circular disc appears at the location of the light source and can
be seen through objects.

2. An extra beam appears in the middle of the image.

3. The beams seem to dissappear in front of some objects.

4. The visible beams don't bounce off all the mirrors, even though the
sopt of light does.

Anybody have any ideas on how to fix this?

I'm using POV-Ray 3.5 for windows if that's any help.

I'll post the source code in the scene files group.

The best way to do a laser beam is to fake it.  Use cylinders with media or
cylinders that have a greater than 1 value for ambient (or a combination of the
two).  Give them "no_shadow" keywords and you will not have "ghost" beams
showing up, only the ones you mean to have.
    I would write a macro that figures out where the cylinders should be and how
much brightness they should have (for the beam splitter, for instance.)

This could be a bug with cylindrical lights, but I'm not sure.

Try raising your max_trace_level.  I think there's also a max_trace_level
for photons; try raising that (if it exists).

I was able to remove that one by commenting out the "parallel"-keyword from
the laser light-source.

I have no clue why that happens. I increased max_trace_level (for photons
and in general) a lot, but to no avail. Strange.

Take a look at the laser itself, you can see a black disc about halfway
along the case, that is where the light source is located, you might need
to adjust your gamma correction or monitor settings to see it clearly.

The problem is that if you do that, the light no longer accurately simulates
a laser.
